Unless Congress achieves a deal to head off the revised schedule for across-the-board spending cuts, the Defense Department in March will be forced to begin rotating monthly furloughs of all 791,000 of its civilian employees, a prominent budget analyst said on Wednesday.

Civilian contracting officers. Yep, that's me. The new job I'm taking in 2 1/2 weeks has me as the lone contracting officer in the building supporting a 3-star command. I am assuming I may be exempt from furlough because of this, but we'll see. Honestly, there is no way for an organization to operate without a contracting officer. We let the contracts and pay the contractors. We're the only people with warranted authority to do so. Will be interesting to watch.
