A&E doctors are calling for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives to reduce deaths from stabbing.
A team from West Middlesex University Hospital said violent crime is on the increase - and kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings.

They argued many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon.

The research is published in the British Medical Journal."

So, the Brits ban guns...and violence goes up...so now some doctors want to ban knifes...

On a related note, a doctor told me the best way to cut accidental deaths by 50%...is to ban doctors...

It sickens me we live in a country where sharp knives are allowed to be used by people to cut things.

Take away the point and it becomes a blunt instrument. And those kill too. How 'bout we ban fire? Lots of death and injury there.

I think it's more the long part that they have a problem with. According to the article, you don't really need long knives (at least for dining purposes). The long knives don't offer an advantage at the dinner table, but they can reach an organ when used to stab someone.

As far as banning fire, I think if you were to do a benefit/harm analysis, you would find that the benefits of fire far out weigh the harms.
