Bryan Fischer spent the first hour of his radio program today discussing this morning's truly horrific shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut, which he, of course, blamed on the fact that prayer, the Bible, and the Ten Commandments are not taught in public schools.

Fischer said that God could have protected the victims of this massacre, but didn't because "God is not going to go where he is not wanted" and so if school administrators really want to protect students, they will start every school day with prayer:

Cath-O-Christ-O-Conks, any comment?

I have said it for a long time. Christians are the worst thing for Christianity.

While I believe God can do whatever, whenever, He gave us free will and I personally don't believe He influences that.

Atheists, while not believing in God, always wanna blame Him for everything. You can't have it both ways. It's attitudes like this that absolutely make me hate atheists with every fiber that is in my body and I am serious. I want to be permanently banned from this board as of today. But you will hear from me, you can rest assured. Been nice knowing you all.

If only there were an omnipotent loving god to protect us from the tragedies of life. And all wed have to do is think about what we need and he could read our minds and take care of it. That would be cool. Too bad there isn't. :coffee:

I believe we have many choices.
I don't think when or how we die is one of them.

Yeah, he gave us free will, but we'll all suffer eternal damnation in hell if we don't believe in him and his clone, Jesus. :dunce:

Yep, he's absolutely correct on #1 - many christians are assholes and know little about their religion. He proceeds to prove this in #2.

If you're a christian, you're supposed to believe God knows everything, including if you're going light up 20 kids in an elementary school.

Don't believe me? Read your fucking bible...

Psalm 139:16 - Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Acts 17:26 - And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.

Proverbs 20:24 - Man's goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way?

Ephesians 1:11 - In him we were also chosen,[a] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,

God knows everything and everything is predetermined, therefore we do not have free will.

Seattle if you believe god doesn't influence our decisions, why don't you just be honest with yourself and admit that the christian god is impossible and move on to a more life affirming religion or spirituality?

Because I don't know the ways of God. God is not bound by the same rules we are if you believe He created the universe, which I do. Maybe God does influences my will and I just don't realize it, maybe not. Either way, I believe I have free will and make my own choices.

What more life affirming religion or spirituality would that be?

Have the guts to say "prayers". No, not from me. Have I thought about em? Of course I have and I will continue to contact my legislators, like I did the last this happened - last week, and encourage them to find meaningful solutions to people's obsession with guns.

Prayers don't mean shit and they're often just a fake guilt relief exercise for those who: contribute to the problem - conservative christians/gun fetishists and their NRA or are powerless or too stupid to foster real solutions.

Actually you do know the ways of god. It's in the bible. If you don't believe what the bible says about your god then why don't you be honest with yourself and shelve the bible and free yourself from the shackles of christianity - there's a whole world of superior and interesting eastern religions, drug cults, aboriginal spiritual systems that can fulfill your need for religion or an afterlife. Better yet, IMO, drop all of it and investigate secular humanism. While not a religion, it is an enlightened belief system based on reason, science and critical ethical inquiry.

You got me on prayers. Forgot you don't believe in anything supernatural. Of course the whole big bang theory punches you in the a-hole, but that is another discussion.

As for prayers, heaven forbid you believe good thoughts will be accepted. We only have five senses and you are telling me prayer is bullshit? :dunce:

You need to admit that all your gods admit they don't know.

Which commandment is that? There are only 10 things in the Bible that are written in stone, the rest are history, stories, poems and proverbs.

I think it was Elie Wiesel who said (in The Kingdom of Auschwitz):

"Where was God?"

Answer: "Where was man?"

Just like Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, D1B is using the versus of the Bible to push his agenda. These are how the writers of the time perceive God, and none of these writings say everything that happens is God's will. If you know God's will, then you know something that no other human that ever lived knows or knew. I tend to believe that some of it's God's will, other times it's man's will getting in the way of God's will, sometimes things just happen.

Secular humanism cannot be sustained because it is based on he premise that there is something "good" about human happiness and social justice but, at the same time, that there is nothing outside of ourselves that makes that so. And once you reject the idea of something outside of ourselves that says such is the case the premise cannot be sustained. It's not enlightened at all. It's delusional. It's an attempt to replace religion that doesn't really work in the final analysis.
