Meatless Mondays

The City Council that had earlier declared war on trans fats and fast-food restaurants voted 14-0 on Friday to adopt a resolution urging residents to pledge they won't eat meat on the first day of the week.

The Los Angeles Daily News says it doesn't make Monday meat consumption illegal and police won't be checking what you brought to work for lunch.

The resolution is simply designed to make residents healthier and reduce the impact on the environment.

CBS Los Angeles reported in September that the cafeteria at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center has implemented "Meatless Mondays" once a month. Dana Hunnes a senior dietician at the medical center told the station that eating a vegan diet helps prevent weight gain and diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

:ohno: A sad state of affairs that you begin having to legislate what people can or can't have to eat because we won't take care of ourselves on our own.

At this point we're pretty much doomed to being a nation of fat, lazy slobs. Legislation like this isn't going to do much to change that.

If you want some "awareness Legislation"
pass something that makes Americans walk through their local Wal-Mart
That alone is enough to terrify you into correcting your diet

Jeezus..!!!

It was so much easier in days of yore when you could control what people ate just by making a religious decree.

Couldn't do Meatless Fridays could they? Don't want to help the cause by capturing the Catholics?

Hmmm....rarely do I put "walk" and "Wal-Mart" in the same sentence. Aren't most of those people riding the little motorized carts around the store? :?

More vegetarian pseudoscience being peddled like it's fact.

Here's a rule of thumb for meat....the more sophisticated an animal's brain is, the less healthy it is to eat it. You don't need to give up meat...just eat certain meats less.

Eating meat at every meal is a 20th century thing. Meat these days are pumped full of hormones and all that crap that you eventually ingest . Really the best meat is that you catch and/or hunt, it's more pure.

Mostly due to the fries, bread and grease than the actual speck of meat.

The company I work for has a free fruit Tuesday, which is a better way to encourage eating healthy food, IMO. Oranges today. :thumb:

Speaking of what you eat, I have your venison here at the office. Let me know when you are swinging by so I'll have it ready. Bring a cooler!
