A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession

Anyone read the book?

There's an entire section on the myth of southern football. It's kind of an irreverent romp through the South which at times is lacking in "truthiness". But hey, a man can dream.

When is a book or movie ever NOT irreverent about the South? :coffee:

This. In America's eyes, we're nothing but a bunch of inbred, ignorant hillbillies that hunt, fish and play the banjo. :ohno:

Cry me a river, the South has been totally glorified.

Paula Dean for instance...

You can have her. She's an embarrassing stereotype IMO.

Yeah, the whole cast was from the South.

Edit: actually, Forrest, Bubba, Momma, Lt. Dan....all from somewhere else. :tothehand:

She does NOT represent the South. I don't know why people think fried foods and fake southern accent represent the South. Her food is horrible, her restaurant is nothing special and her accent is fake. That southern draw is all an act.

I'm offended that you bring her up. :tothehand:

I can't believe one of those Starbucks guzzling, owl watching, Prozac taking, Nirvana fans from the NW would try to stereotype the South. It's just wrong to do something like that.

The only thing that isn't fake is her southern accent...well she might exaggerate it to some extent. Her food is decent, certainly not great, but she is one hell of a businesswoman who has perfected and sells her "brand" well. The tourons are lined up and wrap around her restaurant every...single...day.

SHe exaggerates. I've been on a few shoots with her. Other than no concern for kitchen sanitation (licking spoons and then reusing that spoon to serve, i.e) she has a great publicist. That is the key to being a celebrity chef, a publicists. Have you been to Lady and Sons or her sons restaurant? Horrible food.

The first time I went to Savannah I thought about checking it out, but online reviews are generally pretty negative. Plus I'm not waiting in a long line for lunch when I'm on vacation. There's probably a reason she's got the dibeetus.

Everything is high in fat. Fat=Flavor. G8, Lady and Sons is like Hymans in Charleston. It's a tourist trap that no local goes to.

I think most of you go to the tourist traps. Meanwhile, the #1 tourist destination in the US and the World, according to Conde Nast, is Charleston, SC.

Most probably do and I loved the times I've been in Charleston. My only complaint is Kiawah is too far from downtown. :D
