He didn't say that we don't use bayonetes. He said that we have fewer now than we did in 1916. I don't know if that's true, but if you're going to say Obama lost, you should at least get his talking point right.

Well, since our armed services end strength #'s were in the millions during the cold war, and has shrunk every year since 1989 I'm pretty sure we have less now.

Actually, it's pretty much tied at this point. If it's still tied on election day, Romney will win pretty significantly since, historically, 75% of the so-called "undecided voters" always go against the incumbent.

That's true. Obama isn't claiming HE's reduced the horse and bayonet use(that'd be FDR) but he is making a point about the changing nature of war and our defense needs.

Do we need more men? What is the threat, what are the future threats and what are our defense needs. If it's less pilots and more drones than we should reduce the number of pilots.

The only fully operational horse unit is Indian. The US Military uses horses for reenactments, competitions, funerals, etc... We are not sending horses into battle. Since the 1940's we've had a fully mechanized Calvary. Having said that, American forces have used horses in Afghanistan for transportation through the mountains. They may be used for patrol or recon, but the number is so small.

We have a larger military than in 1917. Both Romney and Obama made bad statements on this one. Didn't the Navy say they need 300 ships, not the 313 that Romney said or the 280? that Obama said.
