Law School Hiring Bias

This looks like it might be the first case of hiring bias against conservatives among college faculties. Traditionally, this sort of thing is VERY hard to prove, but the alleged victim here was quite meticulous in documenting what's been going on. I hope she wins.

OT, but didn't the Bush administration hire an abnormally large amount of Regent and Liberty lawyers?

Interesting to see that the First Amendment "expert" said that no professor would be "stupid enough" to admit political bias at a faculty meeting.

At a federal trial that starts Monday in Davenport, Wagner will argue that the law school faculty blocked her appointment because she had opposed abortion rights, gay marriage and euthanasia while working as a lawyer for the Family Research Council and the National Right to Life Committee in Washington
No wonder she didn't get hired. :dunce:
"This will put a spotlight on a terrible injustice that is being perpetrated throughout American higher education," said Peter Wood, president of the National Association of Scholars,
Really?

So, SH - were you upset over the preference for unqualified lawyers from Regents and Liberty that got hired by the Bush Admin, and turned out scores of outgageous briefs?

No, you Talibanistas only get hacked off when the system isn't tilted in your favor.

And, working for the FRC is reason enough to show you are unqualified to teach.

Bingo!

Libs are all about freedom of speech until it is something with which they don't agee.

Hope she wins and it breaks up the liberal tomfoolery at most universities.

This shouldn't be about political bias or balance. The woman is clearly an idiot and I guess right wingers feel idiocy deserves equal representation.

First, how do we even know this woman is the most qualified applicant? Such a difficult case to make; unless, just a hint of bias wins a lawsuit. She was teaching part-time in the writing center? Come on, all departments have people like this... the lingerers, folks that can't find a job in a tough market and feel entitled to the next tenure track position. In fact, these types of hires rarely happen; why pay her tenure track money when she's already there doing the work and getting paid a fraction of TT salary?

IMO, what we're seeing here is the beauty and efficiency of the free market system.

DEFINITELY OT. What the cr@p does the Bush admin have to do with law schools?

The lib MO: divert the topic.

Yeah, why bring up something so trivial as the Presidency of the United States? :dunce: :dunce:

On what basis do you say there were unqualified? What's outrageous is the legal establishment's status quo. So we have government for the of the jurists, by the jurists, and for the jurists.

Because the theory of law they teach there is not based on the Constitution.

And performance by said quacks proved it.

The Presidency has about as much relevancy to THIS topic as President Obama had when he stuck his nose into a local cop case and tried to mediate it over beer.

"Praised by colleagues as smart, friendly and passionate about the law, Teresa Wagner was a leading candidate when two jobs came open to teach writing at the University of Iowa law school. An alumnus, she was already working part-time at its writing center and received positive reviews from students and a key committee."

I don't know anything about her, but if she is an idiot, then she'd fit right in with the other out-of-touch clowns that are running our universities.

However, it seems as though she is not an idiot...at least according to those who've worked with her, been taught by her, and those who were involved in the vetting and interview process that ended up with her on the list of the finalists for the position. But what do they know? :ugeek:

No, it seems as though she just disagrees with the idiots in charge. It is disgraceful when a group of so-called leaders decide to not open their minds.

Ivy's post is spot on. The so-called "First Amendment" expert should have his quote tattooed on his forehead.

I played basketball with Martina in 1980 in a pick up game.
She was in her prime, and OK, she was ugly then too. But she had great legs.
Not really sure what I'm getting at here. :? :?
Shit.
I need a few Bud Lights.

:tothehand: I would not know about that. But the joke was that she didn't need a strap-on because she had her own package. I guess rumors like that go hand in hand with a horse face.

:tothehand: First, I was 5' something and a half back then. Second, Nancy Lieberman was on my team and they guarded each other ;).
