I guess the auto makers are just having a really hard time "figuring out" how to make things cheaper for the consumer.. either that, or they're knowingly ripping all of us off.

Big oil is certainly cozy with automakers to keep demand for their product up. But, also don't discount the role that CARB plays in all of this. We could have doubled our mileage as a country years ago if CARB didn't try to kill the diesel market with ridiculous emissions standards. I sometimes wonder if GM didn't purposely set back passenger diesels by decades with the garbage converted diesels they put in Oldsmobiles in the late 80s that all blew up, but then I'd be going all Expandos. Also research the "chicken tax" and how that has effectively allowed the Big Three to feed pickup truck buyers incredibly inefficient gas pickups for years when they could have been driving the torquey four and six cylinder diesel pickups the rest of the world has had all this time. The chicken tax was a penalty designed to keep VW out of the US truck market, but even when Asian companies have tried to bring a light diesel truck (see Mahindra just a couple of years ago), the EPAand CARB killed them before they got here.

If anyone came up with a non-carbon fuel idea that was truly worth a d***, that person would become a billionaire and the oil companies would be SOL and wouldn't be able to offer enough to buy up the patent. How much horsepower does that thing have, anyways? Looks like a glorified golf cart to me.
Also, as electric cars go, just consider the math...there is 745 watts in ONE horsepower. Now consider the MILLIONS of cars that each operate daily at an average of, let's say, 30 horsepower. If EVERYONE is recharging their cars on the grid, where are you going to get all the extra energy? Maybe all the oil that's not being used for our cars will be burned for electricity? Or maybe we can just burn more coal?
Honestly, this "oilocracy" stuff is really getting lame and stupid.

If big oil paid a fraction of the taxes they should be, we could put that money into researching nuclear fusion, or at least traveling-wave reactors. If we nail even one of those two, our energy problems are basically solved.

Why don't you just do it yourself and save money?

Gas is above $4 a gallon here for regular.. How are prices in your neck of the woods?
Meanwhile the "big automakers" can't seem to figure out how to create an affordable electric vehicle, when a teenager can make one in his own garage.
Getting bent over feels so good though, I love paying for gas and watching the dollars flip away 70 dollars a tank isn't that bad afterall.. /sarcasm.

Maybe you should drive a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Why do you care? Do you actually leave the house? Everyone is out to get you, especially twins. Better for all of us if you stay in mom's basement. Preferably off the grid; the internet was invented to take away your gun rights.

STFU, big oil pays way more than their fair share of taxes.
Maybe if you left wing fu*kfaces would make unemployed and poor people pull the wagon you could steal that tax revenue to fun another one of your idiotic research projects.
