Political TV "Debates" are like Football Games

At least to those who really get in to them.

My wife is on the State Republican Central Committee. I don't like watching those TV "debates." Of course she does like watching them.

So anyway I get up this morning at 5:45 am to get ready for work and she's not in bed. She's been up all night. I get up and see her and she's all giddy. She's like a Saints fan after the Saints won the Super Bowl. She's been watching DVR replay of the debate all night. She's saying Romney KILLED Obama.

I say, "Now hon, you might see the polls and they might say most people thought Obama did better."

She says, "NO WAY."

Anyway I thought about how if I DVR a game and my team wins I like watching it over and over and am all happy and such. That's what she reminded me of.

You might want to break it to her gently... but...
This country won't be any better off with Romney - now I understand psychologically it'll make some folks "feel better" and all that but that eventually wears off and the actual reality will sink in

Bush / Obama / Romney = Same guy different suit

I think it depends on what one thinks is "better off." All I need to do is think about Supreme Court nominations and I'm very comfortable with saying there's a huge difference between the two candidates with respect to that matter. Also Romney wants to ditch the new health care law. That is huge regardless of which side you're on regarding that issue.

No, the world won't be all swell and wonderful if one is elected over the other. But don't kid yourself. It will make a difference. The scenario for the following four years with Romney as President is very different than the scenario for the following four years with Obama as President.

Having said all that I still think Obama's going to get re-elected.

Yes, Cleets, we'd be demonstrably better off if Romney kicks Skeezix out of the White House. Your portfolio will be better off. Your progeny, if any, will be better off.

I think repealing the Affordable Healthcare Act is about it frankly - as far is major actions
and that's not 100% in the Bag if Romney gets elected
Either way He'll make sure Big Pharma and Big Insurance is well cared for under his watch
But I'm still not sure there's much difference

I understand that you two don't agree - but - I just don't see it

One of the most important things a President does, in my opinion, is nominate Justices for the Supreme Court. I think Democrats are much better at predicting that the Liberal Justices they nominate will be consistently Liberal. Republicans do get nasty surprises at times. But, still, if a Democrat like Obama is doing the nominating you're pretty close to 100% sure you're going to get nominees who don't give a crap about the Constitution itself at all. If a Republican like Romney is doing the nominating you have at least a shot at getting Justices who have at least SOME respect for the Constitution itself.

Another thing is that Romney will not favor Obama's attack on the coal industry. He will be much more "friendly" to fossil fuel energy interests. Oil exploration and recovery too. Whether you agree with that or not...and I agree with it...it's a big difference.

It's the way politics are as a whole. Not just debates.

People were literally in the streets celebrating when Obama won in 2008. :? :ohno:
