Billion dollar system, say goodbye to any remaining privacy you may have had:

Funny how there always seems to be money for this crap.. What a shitty coup of a government.

For many years now I have said that we have allowed law enforcement to develop too much capability. I know why we did it. We want security. We want to be able to catch the "bad guys" when crimes occur. But we have also allowed the development of an infrastructure that will ensure that if an oppressive, totalitarian government evolves there will be absolutely no hope.
Of course nothing like that will happen in my lifetime. But I think that each generation has a responsibility to ensure that government does not get into position to exercise too much power. And the last few generations in the United States have, I think, failed miserably in that regard.
Law enforcement is not the "good guys." It's the necessary guys. A necessary evil. And that should always been borne in mind.

Surveillance is like gun control, you can argue until you're blue in the face but there isn't a thing that can be done about it. The barn door is open and the horse is long gone. If a technology exists it will be used.

It's the Death of a Thousand Cuts for us, my friends.
Greg Mullen is Chief of Police in Charleston SC and he is one of the reasons I left law enforcement. Total tech-driven autocrat. He was responsible in part for the FR system they put in on Virginia Beach. I entered law enforcement when civil rights were only violated at the individual level (equally bad), but now we take the Wal-Mart approach to subjugating Americans. Just watch everybody.

They'll put it on drones and send it wherever they want; the whole rig will be the size of your hand and be able to stay on location for days. It will be a felony to shoot one down.

You mean the technology?
