I mean, OK, if I really thought she did that other thing where she denied me a job I was really more qualified for in order to put a female in the position I wouldn't like that. But that just kind of goes with the territory of being a White Male right now.

Have you seen the movie, Horrible Bosses? Jennifer Aniston plays a dentist that wants to fuck her hygenist, Charlie Day. I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Wouldn't really care all that much about the sexually explicit remarks. But things like the moving of office equipment to the bathroom, I'd have something to say about that.

And BTW, this is the type of thing that happens when hires are made for diversity-based reasons. You can't tell me Obama was determined to make a woman the DHS and that there are plenty of men out there who would be more qualified.

I'm pretty unflappable when it comes to most things so it wouldn't bother me and I'm guessing she was completely hammered during most of these transgressions. I'd probably point that out to her the next day.

By the same token I happen to think men and women are completely different so while her behavior isn't really that big of a deal to me, it's obviously a different situation if it's a dude saying those type of things to female staff.

I thought you were a progressive? If they're different and can be treated differently in this respect than they can be treated differently in other respects such as pay. You can't say we want equality in all of the good stuff such as pay, no glass ceilings, etc. but not in the potentially bad stuff like sexual harassment. It's a package deal, the bad comes with the good.

If her comments only make 1 out of 100 guys feel uncomfortable, even if they were directed to a different guy, they're sexual harassment and wrong.

I think the difference is that men are far less likely to get in a wad over it when a female superior says something off color to them. Men are, I think, much less likely to feel like they have to go running to "Daddy" or "Mommy" because somebody said something suggestive, derogatory, or offensive. I think they have more of a "grown ups can handle that sort of thing" mentality.

I think about that concept of "workplace harassment" sometimes in the context of what it was like when I worked a couple of summers at an oil refinery just after high school. What those old guys did to college kids there for summer jobs....well...talk about harassment.

To me it's really pathetic that we've gotten to the point where people can go whining to the government when they get harassed at work, etc. Just buck up and handle it. And if you can't handle it that's natural selection at work.
