Drones in the US

The new recommendations by the association, a non-profit based in Arlington, Va., that has members in more than 60 countries, pledge to "respect the privacy of individuals" and the concerns of the public and to follow all federal, state and local laws. They also pledge to ensure that remote drone pilots are properly trained and to respect "other users of the airspace."

The language on privacy is good, but it's not enough, American Civil Liberties Union lobbyist Chris Calabrese said.

A small Draganflyer X6 drone makes a test flight in Mesa County, Colo. with a Forward Looking Infrared payload in this Jan. 2009 file photo. The drone, on loan to the sheriff's department from the manufacturer, measures about 36 inches from rotor tip to rotor tip, and weights just over two pounds. (Credit: AP/Mesa County Sheriff's Unmanned Operations Team) "I think it's really important that they're paying attention to privacy. That's to their credit," Calabrese said. "But I can't imagine they expect this to quell privacy concerns."
Calabrese added that ultimately even well-meaning guidelines from a private group aren't legally binding on public and private organizations around the country.

"I think Congress needs to step in. This is new technology. It's potentially incredibly invasive," he said. "People are profoundly discomforted by the idea of drones monitoring them."

Some law enforcement agencies have already purchased powerful drones.

Montana GOP Senatorial candidate Dennis Rehberg has already formally protested to the Obama administration to cease immediately the use of military drones to spy on energy industry operators polluting in the state, citing it as an unwarranted intrusion by the energy industry hating Obama administration...

So, apparently it is already going on.

I got nothing to hide, except my speedometer. I'm OK with it in specified situations.

The sad thing is is that most Right wingers I assume have zero problems with this as most of them supported The so called Patriot Act hands down. Their argument, " If you are not doing anything wrong what do you have to worry about" ? i would guess that to be the same argument here.

BTW, this is bullshit, I say shoot them down when they fly over your property.

I sure they will only be used as they say they will.

Drones bother me because it is certain that they will be used unlawfully. I'm more concerned though when Homeland Security issues reports that identify potential terrorists as "those who revere personal liberty","those who are suspicious of centralized federal power", people who pay in cash at internet cafes, people who seem concerned that their emails might be read in public places and people who have libertarian bumper stickers on their cars.

Fuck the government.

You will welcome the drones, citizen. If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear.

Once Big Brother starts watching he won't stop. Doesn't matter if he's a conk or a donk. The only thing that might change is who Big Brother watches.

Complete and utter bullshit. One more reason to not support either party.
