...over SCOTUS's approval of ObamaCare is their reversal of the Stolen Valor Act, which made it a federal misdemeanor to lie about one's war record. In a majority decision, they decided that it violated the rights to free speech that military people fight for. Two of those who wrote for the majority say that they would reconsider if the law were re-written, which seems likely.

Regardless. I didn't know about it and I'm happy to hear it. It's ridiculous to make somebody pretending to be a war hero a criminal matter misdemeanor or not. Just ridiculous.

Why are you against free speech?

There have ALWAYS been limits to free speech. For example, slander is illegal, as is yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater. Additionally, it opens up the idea that people can get away with lying on job applications. It's "free speech," right?

So wait, let me see if I understand...
So you believe that lying about being a war veteran should be a felony - right...
So
Should lying about once being a something else be a felony too..?
Like say a Fireman or a Gas Station attendant or an Airline Pilot
I'm curious where the line is..?

lets get inside the mind of SuperHornet

Where did I say it should be a freaking felony? A misdemeanor with a huge fine and getting called out in the press as a liar is sufficient.

I agree 100% with the SCOTUS on this one, it was a no-brainer.
SH, there are specific reasons why your yelling "fire" or slander scenarios are nothing like this. It involves specific harm.
BTW slander is not a crime it is a tort.

Liars only survive living among the gullible...if you "know"...no matter what the subject matter is...you can pretty quickly ferret out the fakes...

While I disapprove of people lying about military service, especially to gain an advantage or something, the SCOTUS made the right decision.

If you made lying a crime what are Politicians going to talk about - they couldn't even hardly talk if you did that

That's not true of EVERY politician. But it IS true of MANY of them. Exhibit A: Nancy Pelosi.
