I am just wondering where my 1st class upgrades are. I've been around the globe three times in the last two years, with a wife and two little girls, all in steerage class. Picture a guy bigger than Capn and D shoehorned into a 17 inch wide seat for 14 hours at a time.

Man, I'm with you. I'm pissed I've never gotten my first class upgrade for being a federal worker. How do I swing that?

I've heard of servicemen in uniform on official travel getting it, but not us GS schmoes.

PS. When did Chuck get his skin dyed orange?

Service members will get it sometimes on airline discretion, not not as a matter of policy. Overseas service used to get it if total flight time was over 14 hours, but domestic service folks abused it and it went away altogether. Pretty sure members of congress and others still get it.

I never got a free upgrade, even when I was traveling on orders. All I ever got was more of the "Take off your shoes and your belt" crap. As if Joe Sailor is going to blow up a plane on his way to a new duty station.
