Inspired by this - just suprised that a US Rep could do this. I didn't mention her name to try to keep likes/dislikes out of it, but more on a pure constitutional/philosophical basis.

She is obviously too stupid to serve in such a capacity. There needs to be a test for this, but perhaps it should be graded on a curve depending on who they represent....

Or catch someone in an AHA! situation. Kinda like 89 asking should siblings be allowed to marry.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a clear case of conflict of interest in foriegn relations.

Agreed. You either denounce your citizenship from the other country and swear allegiance to the US or don't hold the office.

Have there ever been any congressmen that held US and Israeli citizenship?

Nope - usually you'd be right, but I wanted to get other's opinions bias free on this.
For the record, I voted yes - I think anyone in this situation should resign.

Good question.

I voted "no" by accident. I misread the question and answered whether they "Should they be able hold office". Not whether it should disqualify them.
I should have voted "yes" for disqualification.

Because when they go nuke Iran and set off WWIII, it's going to be an issue.

Carl Levin
Chairman of the Armed Services Committee
Or at least that's what Google results say. Nothing officially confirming it though.

I think in most cases you can be a dual national and hold a security clearance, but that is largely dependent on the country.

I as well thought it meant should they be able to hold office.

I agree with the conflict of interest thoughts. Holding citizenship in a foreign nation should be renounced before seeking public office.

In Bachmann's case, her citizenship was automatically conferred based on her marriage. Some countries do this. She is a natural born US citizen though, and that should be the controlling factor. I thought she renounced? I haven't followed the issue much other than a blurb I saw on CNN the other morning.

She did renounce it.
