Honest to god, you can't make this shit up. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

The hero of donks everywhere, Harry Reid says we should save the USPS because it's JUNK MAIL that makes senior citizens feel "part of the real world".
“I’ll come home tonight here to my home in Washington and there’ll be some mail there,” the Nevada Democrat said Wednesday on the Senate floor. “A lot of it is what some people refer to as junk mail, but for the people who are sending that mail, it’s very important.

“And when talking about seniors, seniors love getting junk mail. It’s sometimes their only way of communicating or feeling like they’re part of the real world.”

This guys is a fucking caricature of even himself. Nevada should be SO PROUD.

The bankrupt and obsolete USPS.

In the cyber world, junk mail is called spam. Do you like getting your inbox filled with spam? If so, I can arrange to see that you get all you can handle.

Because letter carriers (like the one whose application I took this morning) make $65k/year and then make at least 80% of that amount in pension along with free insurance for life. When you consider that kind of waste is nationwide the cost is almost incomprehensible.

In the private sector it would be.

Always have, unlike the Conks on here, who, like the Bible, pick and choose what to support.

There are very clear areas of the Constitution - USPS is one of those.

Want to get rid of it? Amend the Constitution

Huh? What Constitution are you reading? Simply having an enumerated power, as the power to "To establish Post Offices and post Roads;" in no way mandates that Congress has to use that power. Congress has the power to declare war but nowhere in the Constitution does it madate that Congress actually declare war on anyone. They have the power to do so, but that doesn't mean they have to use the power. No need to ammend the Constitution, just simply use the enumerated power to close them down, if that is what we should do.

I sometimes shudder at the common perceptions of the Constitution, even by smart people. If smart people mangle it like this imagine what dumb people think is and isn't in the Constitution. Understanding of civics is in danger of extinction it would seem.

Saying the existence of the Post Office system is Constitutionally mandated and that we need to ammend the Constitution to eliminate it rises above the level of pickieness considering that it is flat out incorrect. It's akin to people actually thinking that UNI will ever defeat Delaware on the gridiron - such sheer incorrectness always requires correcting. ;)
