If anything, the burden is on the state because that's who's paying for the urinalysis materials, the salaries of the staff administering it, shipping costs, and the obvious lab fees. That's assuming they outsource it, of course. The other option would be to do it in-house, which begs some place to house the operation and the salaries of the lab techs. In either case, the only "burden" on the "poor" is the time involved in providing the sample, the lead time between the act of urinalysis and the return of the lab results, and MAYBE the embarrassment of having to drop trou in front of a stranger of the SAME gender.
Having "endured" many whiz quizzes while in the military, I have no problem with this IF the state can handle the incidental costs.

I'm sure it would be outsourced, and it would pay for itself with the welfare checks that wouldn't need to be cut due to failed tests. I am for drug testing of anyone on the government teat whether it be employment or welfare.

I had to piss test to get a job to have my pay go to the government...having to piss test to get money from the government makes sense

Still waiting for an explanation as to how this puts "an unfair burden on the poor".
Why? Because they won't pass the test and not get their money and get pissed off and not continue voting for the donks who are giving them their heroin in the form of welfare checks?

First, Dick the Bruiser, list your source.

Democrats work hard too and ain't interested in giving anyone a free pass. We just have compassion and empathy for the poor.
Democrats were split on drug-testing of welfare recipients, with 49 percent disapproving and 50 percent approving. But 90 percent of Republicans endorsed the law, with independent voters supporting it by a 75-24 percent margin.

Second, they're targeting the poor and thus further vilifying them. And that's ultimately what this is about:
Feeding a perverse and ever-present need in conks to blame all of society's ills on niggers, mexicans and the poor.
You're even willing go against your own alleged principals of limited government and fiscal conservatism to do it. The data does not warrant the need:
Florida's neophyte Republican governor, tea-party-friendly Rick Scott, signed a bill back in June requiring the state's welfare recipients to undergo drug-testing urinalysis before collecting their monthly assistance check of around $241-to-$303. The measure, he said, would save taxpayer money by barring drug addicts from getting the dole. "Studies show that people that are on welfare are higher users of drugs than people not on welfare," he said.
Florida's welfare recipients are proving that Scott's assumption wasn't worth a warm bucket of pee. Now, the state is effectively being forced to pay for 11.5 gallons of welfare applicants' drug-free urine every month, to the tune of around $34,000.
Of the 1,000 or so recipients who have taken the required drug tests (at their own expense) since early July,
only 2 percent have tested positive for drugs, according to the Tampa Tribune. That's well below the national population's average, and it's so low that the testing plan—which was expected to cost $187 million by some analysts' estimates—could end up costing taxpayers even more in the long run.

$30-35 bucks may not be alot to you, but it is to the poor. This is an unfair burden.
In Florida, the average TANF household payment is $253-a-month and the average time receiving benefits is just under five months. The new law required that applicants pay for their own drug tests -- with fees of $30-$35 -- and said they would be reimbursed by the state when the applicants pass.
Z, how bout we drug test your crowd? White collar welfare fucks with drinking, nicotine and cocaine problems?
Do your research on the poor, Z. Reagan was wrong.
They ain't monsters, they're single women with children who have been abandoned by irresponsible men.

White collar is already drug-tests in most corporations. Who do you think keeps Hazeldon and other booze and dope treatment facilities open.

So what? They should be drug tested as a condition to receive their welfare checks.

D1B's right. Some of you (actually, all of you) Conks need to read up on who the poor really are. White middle-aged Conks like Z and Alfie and BODUNK and Broncky think they are some crack-addled Willie Horton type who's shaking, waiting to receive and cash his welfare check to buy more drugs.
Fact is, most poor are WHITE, female and with children. Fatherhood is a problem among whites, too, fellas.
Z,
Another challenge - research who the poor are for your own information instead of bleating Rushisms and Baldyisms here like a blind idiot.

THAT SAID....
As with Scott Walker, whom I have been rather favorable toward for him pushing that union benefits issue in Wisconsin, I welcome this effort for the same reason. Push the issue, see where it goes. It might surprise both sides. that is a problem in the new America, we're lacking the courage to even TRY some of these things, be they Conky or Donky.
Cap'n Cat hath spoken.
Long live Cap'n Cat.

What has been overlooked here is the fact that if you can pass a piss test to get welfare you should be able to pass a piss test to get a job.
I would imagine the welfare recipients who are able to pass a piss test become employed and cycle off welfare faster than what we saw before. If that is the case, and common sense indicates it should be, then the program is effective for reasons other than strict principle.

So true.
Also "helping the poor" is not giving them welfare............the sooner guys like D1B/CapN learn that the better off they will be in the future.
You guys are keeping them where they are at and you know it. That isnt compassion its slavery. You guys really need to adopt the mindset that helping them become the best productive people they can be is the answer not keeping them in a self made hole so you can get your politicians elected.
Conservatives believe that EVERYONE can be productive and they all have something to add to society, that cant be accomplished by putting them in a welfare box like you donks have done for decades.

I think it's a great idea and that the State legislators should lead by example.
We deserve better than a bunch of junkies making laws after washing down a couple of Xanax with some martinis at lunch. No legislator should be allowed to vote on the people's business unless he/she can pass a piss test immediately before the vote.
Effing well know
that crowd will be >2% positive....

Flunk three piss tests and you're out on your ass, no retirement, no bennies, go to jail...

Agree but, it's still targeting the poor.
If you're going to do this, piss test everyone who gets a welfare check and piss test all governement workers. (I noticed your governor backed off on that part of it, the coward) Lotta drunks and RX drug addicts making big decisions with our lives. I could care less about TANF recipents.
You know this is nothing but a move to satiate the cynical thirst in most conks and tea bagger low lifes for villifying the poor.

I know it goes against y'all's half-witted stereotypes... but, the vast majority of welfare recipients aren't on drugs.

It's a conk's worse nightmare - sober welfare recipients.

Without that myth, they're just a bunch of truly bitter and empty people.

So to be clear, you're just SURE that the poor welfare recipients aren't abusing drugs but you're just CERTAIN there's a "lotta drunks and RX addicts" in the government.
