Yup, it's an embarassment. Both sides should be apalled that they've failed this massively in terms of trying to govern. However, they're each too concerned about blaming the other side and win short term elections than in doing anything concrete to fix the mess they're both responsible for. Pity.DSUrocks07 wrote:This, and where is the Congress budget proposal? Complete polarization.AZGrizFan wrote:And so the job preservation begins.

The House does have a budget proposal. The Senate doesn't. Which party is in the majority in each?

House Votes Down Bipartisan Budget Proposal
WASHINGTON—The House overwhelmingly voted down a bipartisan budget proposal Wednesday that would have directed lawmakers to reduce the federal deficit by more than $4 trillion over 10 years through a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.
The vote on the budget resolution, which was defeated 382-38, shows how far apart Republicans and Democrats remain in Congress over how to address the growing U.S. debt. The measure was pushed by Reps. Jim Cooper (D., Tenn.) and Steve LaTourette (R., Ohio), who had urged their colleagues to begin work on a bipartisan deal.
"If not now, when?" Mr. LaTourette asked his colleagues before the vote.
The lawmakers' proposal received many more votes than the White House's budget proposal for fiscal year 2013, which was voted down on the House floor Wednesday 414 to 0.
On Thursday, the House is expected to pass, mostly along party lines, a resolution drafted by budget committee chairman Paul Ryan (R., Wis.).
Defeat of the Cooper/LaTourette proposal, which largely reflected the outline offered in 2010 by the White House's deficit-reduction commission chaired by Republican former Sen. Alan Simpson and Democrat Erskine Bowles, was expected. Twenty-two Democrats and 16 Republicans ended up supporting the measure.
Liberal and conservative groups appeared to be so alarmed that the budget resolution might gain momentum Wednesday night that they issued sharp news releases hours before the vote warning members not to compromise.
The White House and many Democrats have called for deficit reduction through a combination of targeted spending cuts and large tax increases. Many Republicans, particularly congressional leaders, have said they won't support a deficit-reduction plan that raises taxes, and they have said any deal would require a large restructuring of Medicare and Medicaid.
The U.S. government's debt on Monday was $15.544 trillion, and the government is projected to run a deficit of roughly $1.2 trillion in the year ending Sept. 30. With unemployment still elevated, many lawmakers have said they are reluctant to begin large spending cuts or tax increases in the near term, but lawmakers in both parties have said action needs to be taken to curb the growth of the government's debt over time.
Messrs. Cooper and LaTourette said they were hopeful their proposal, even if it failed, would begin bipartisan negotiations toward a deficit-reduction deal before November.
"This is like an acorn that can grow into a mighty oak tree," Mr. Cooper said in an interview, though he conceded that he wished "it was a larger acorn."
A separate budget proposal by the Congressional Black Caucus was defeated 314-107, with all of the support coming from Democrats.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — House Republicans threw their support behind Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan on Thursday, ramping up an election-year clash with Democrats over Medicare and federal spending.
House lawmakers voted 228-191 to approve the Republican plan, which aims to slash spending by about $5 trillion over a decade relative to President Barack Obama’s latest budget; set up just two individual tax brackets of 10% and 25%; and balance the budget by 2040. Read more about the Ryan budget.

Re: Budget gets voted down HARD
Republican House does their job, passes a budget.
Obama did his job, sort of, submitted his budget plan, which got voted down 414-0 in the House (can't blame the Repubs on that one).
Democrat Senate meanwhile last passed a budget in 2009.....

Re: Budget gets voted down HARD
The fact that ALL the Dems voted down Obama's budget plan is proof that they are just playing politics. Wish he could see that and realize that he needed to stop walking in lockstep with the party. Leaders don't follow. Hope the next President doesn't make that same mistake...BDKJMU wrote:Republican House does their job, passes a budget.
