Neighbors Recruiting Commander Cat To Their Church???

by Cap'n Cat
You all know how Cap'n Cat feels about religion. He is a proud non-believer. Word has certainly spread around the neighborhood, too. Remember, that, despite what you see here, The Cap'n is very even in his presentation of religion to His kids. I teach them to respect those who believe in God and to never make fun of them and I try to never make derogatory comments in front of them. I want them to reach some level of intellectual maturity before they make decisions about religion, an opportunity which I was never afforded. I want to them to check out churches and such and I want them to ask questions about religion, which they do...

Commander Cat, 14, hangs with this kid from a deep Baptist family down the street - church every Sunday, active in all the church functions, etc, which is cool. They always ask Commander Cat to join them for these things almost every week to the point where I have become suspicious that they are trying to recruit The Commander into their church. They don't seem to want any other kids accompanying them to their church stuff.

My main concern is that the boy he hangs with from that family is also the biggest creep among the neighborhood kids. Swears like a truck driver, carries around porn on his ITouch, and treats people poorly.

Should I be concerned and intervene or should I just sit back?

Discuss.

Uh, yeah I'd be concerned. Not because of the churching, but because of what you describe above.

His parents would kill him because of the porn. If they only knew. And, I have to say, his parents are very nice people.

Those are often the ones that have their heads in the sand. You have to let your kids know you trust them, but sometimes you have to do the pop quiz on them. It's a fine line, but I'd rater err on the side of knowing more than I should about their friends and activities.

Yeah, me and Cmdr Cat have a very good, open relationship. We can and do talk about everything. I think he'll be OK. I just don't want them calling Fred Phelps up and protesting on my front lawn.

Agree with Hen - screw the church stuff, I'd be more worried about him hanging around the other kid just based on the non-church behavior. You would hope your kid could make that choice on his own, but 14 is still kinda young and they don't quite get the whole "that guy's a dick and I should steer clear of him" yet.

Why does he like the kid? (Besides the porn...) If he is a bully, maybe Cmdr Cat can influence him in a positive direction. That's what I always told my sons to do. It never worked very well to tell them what to do and what not to do, but I always tried to give them something aspirational to focus on.

Heh-heh. My pickup figures in one of my best stories about that kid. Was backing it out of the driveway a couple of summers ago and he and another kid were behind it in the street. I saw them and they saw me. Backed very slowly, keeping an eye on them so as not to hit them. The little azzhole just stood there and seemed to to dare me to hit him!

It's summer, so I have the windows down (don't like A/C) and I hear him mutter, "What the fvck?". Little prick. I put it in park in the middle of the street and got out and approached him. The little bastard got on his bike and took off like a spooked squirrel! Never fvcked with me again. Calls me sir, sometimes, too!

You do realize that Fred Phelps is not supported by Christians in general or Baptists in particular? The only people on his side are the inbred idiots in his own family.

They have some video game connection. I hear they're the top Black Ops players in eighth grade.

Says he wants to go into the military and I know it's mostly due to Black Ops. Thinks he'll get a uniform and automatically the next day, he's leading a patrol through Kabul with every weapon known to man strapped on his back. Asked him if he ever heard of "Basic Training". He hadn't.

You must really be getting old there CC!

Commander has no interest in becoming a Baptist, there is a young lady that attends that he has wood for, it is simple as that. Even a blind old fart like me many miles away posting on the internet can see that..

C'mon Cappy, take notice! :grizo1:

HAHA, that is to funny. On the topic, I would be concerned because that kid down the street seems like he could be a bad influence. Maybe mention that you caught little neighbor boy and Cmdr. cat looking at something you don't find appropriate on his Ipad Touch(not that you don't live in a glass hosue but I digress) and that might be the wake up call the parents need to lget on the parenting train.

AS for the black ops/basic training, does anyone fear that in the future when these kids start gtting to military age we will have youngsters thinking they can roll through anyone without having to TRAIN for it first. though i suppose we have have had violent video games for awhile so it shouldn't be anything new.

OR this whole dilemna could be god's punishment for your being a pinko commie liberal.....................................................................................................................I kid I kid.

No truer words ever written here...

Churches are great places to forage twat... the more uptight and strict the parents the freakier the daughters. Also, the girls who are really into the church thing ususally have the lowest self esteem, and you all know what women with low self esteem do, right?
