In what will most likely be remembered as a piece of seminal legislation, Wilmington City Council passed a resolution urging federal and state governments to confer the "rights of personhood" to each and every human sperm.

"Laws should be enacted by all legislative bodies in the United States to promote equal representation, and should potentially include laws in defense of 'personhood,' forbidding every man from destroying his semen."

The resolution passed by a 8 to 4 vote on Thursday night.

Loretta Walsh, the councilwoman who introduced the resolution, told the Wilmington News Journal, "What's good for the gander, is good for the goose."

A "toungue in cheek" resolution proposed by a "pro choice" politician. Only problem is that she apparently doesn't understand the difference between a sex cell, such as a sperm cell or an ovum, and a zygote or any of the subsequent stages of development for a member of our species.

A sperm cell or an ovum is one cell of trillions of cells making up a larger organism. It is not a complmete organism in itself. A zygote is an entire organism unto itself. Two entirely different things.

For better or for worse, there is no issue with men comparable to the issue of abortion with women. When a woman is pregnant, another individual...a member of our species...is contained within her body. So the question of abortion involves a question of killing a member of our species. Such a question never arises when it comes to mens' bodies. Men never carry another living member of our species within their bodies. Here is the rest of the article:
Walsh last month vigorously protested a Virginia bill that would require women to have an intrusive transvaginal ultrasound before having an abortion, according to DelawareOnline.com.

She told the paper and website that the resolution was a "tongue-in-cheek" way of calling attention to the hypocrisy of men dictating health decisions affecting women's bodies. "I am standing up for women in this city, I am standing up for women in this state and I am standing up for the women in this country," Walsh said.

The resolution, worthy of a Monty Python skit, says each "egg person" and each "sperm person" should be deemed equal in the eyes of government and given the same rights "as any other dependent minor."

[question]Fetuses are parasites.[/quote]

Not in the biological sense because "parasite" in that sense involves two different species. It's "an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment." (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/parasite" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). But I suppose you could stretch it and use another defintion of "parasite:"

"a person who receives support, advantage, or the like, from another or others without giving any useful or proper return, as one who lives on the hospitality of others. "

But then you'd have to say a fetus is a "person." And I don't think the "pro choice" side wants to do that.

Nope, I think it was a SpongeBob Square Pants sheet set. At least, that's what I think I saw as I ran out of his house. He kept pestering me to lotion my skin. Very creepy.
