Headstones commemorating British and Allied servicemen, killed during World War II campaigns in the Western Desert, lay smashed and strewn across Benghazi Military Cemetery.
Protesters rampaged through site on Friday, despite efforts by America to calm tensions sparked when it emerged U.S. soldiers had burned Muslim holy books in a pile of rubbish at a military base in Afghanistan.

I get these people are angy over hte burning of the Korans, but how do they think that stooping down to that base level, helps thier cause? I never understood this with anyone. The higher ground no longer exists.

What I've always wondered but have never researched is how have the Europeans and the Americans been able to progress so far in terms of technology, medicine, et... yet African and Middle Eastern countries are stuck in time. What is it about thier cultures that has avoided progressing with the rest of the world?

I know it'll never happen but I wish one day an American President would come on in a situation like this and say, "Look. We are not the problem. You are the problem. The Koran is a book. It is ink and paper. If you act like that over the burning of a book you are an idiot. And we're not going to spend our whole lives trying not to offend a bunch of idiots. Grow up. And if you want to fight about it, we will kill you. We will kill every last one of you if we have to. And we can do it."

At some point we need to stop "respecting" and apologizing to these people. We need to stand up and say that their behavior is unacceptable. It's a whole lot more unacceptable than burning a book. If there are going to be any condemnations they should be aimed at the way those who are freaking out over burning the Koran are behaving rather than of burning the Koran.

Africa is an enormous continent with a humongous (that’s an official measure) abundant boatload of resources. Africa is not just a desert…it contains, by far, the largest amount of grassland in the world and has an enormous coastline that is strategically positioned in the middle of the world’s trading routes. Diamonds, oil, timber, minerals…plenty to work with. In fact, Europe has exploited those resources for centuries.

The issue with Africa is that they have been uneducated and divided as a people. As bad as Europe was divided before the World Wars, Africa makes Europe look like a happy, unified family.
