"Would you tell them that this experiment, here at Bikini, is for the benefit of all Mankind."

Just saw an old video of a US Military guy telling that to a translator to deliver to the inhabitants of the Bikini atoll right before the nuclear weapons tests of 1946.

Not to worry. The point was to convince the inhabitants that they should be happy about being relocated. They didn't leave them there.

But, GEEZE, what a bunch of male bovine fecal material.

The world is better off with nuclear weapons...no war between top militaries for many decades. And if we had been doing more over the years to get more nuclear power going in this country instead of being chicken-**** scared, we'd be even better off.

I disagree that the world is better off. The risk is there and sooner or later it will be realized. The list of nations brandishing them is expanding and will continue to do so. Nuclear weapons will be used again.

But, beyond that, the sheer level of being disingenuous represented by that guy saying it was being done for the benefit of all Mankind is overwhelming. They were doing it to see if nuclear weapons render naval power obsolete. They didn't give a crap about "all Mankind."

It IS good. I have a DVD of it. It's almost too bad the Cold War ended because that was SO good when I watched it the first time in the context of what was really going on in the world back then.
