Anybody ever get a flier in the mail from some "church" that says it is Islam AND Christian? Is it possible? I don't follow it all too closely but I was really confused when I got it in the mail today.

Not possible, unless they confuse the religions. Christianity claims Jesus Christ is Divine Son of God, Islam claims he is a prophet ad that Allah is the only god. They are mutually exclusive claims.

So what in the fucking world talking about then? Maybe they are hoping both sides will show up and they could have a good ol' knock down drag out brawl.

Basically, it comes down to this...

   [sing-kri-tiz-uhm, sin-] Show IPA

noun
1.
the attempted reconciliation or union of different or opposing principles, practices, or parties, as in philosophy or religion.
This happens all the time in China and India as people try to blend Christianity with folk religions. To SOME degree, worship of GOD IAW one's own cultural forms is acceptable (as Christianity is originaly an Eastern religion), something early missionaries had a problem with in Africa. But sometimes people go too far. This is one of those times.

Just a slight thing, but Christian Arabs call God "Allah" as well. "Allah" is the Arabic word for God so it's mentioned in the Quran a lot (which was written in Arabic). Over time, practicing Muslims who speak in different languages seem to have adopted it as the default name for God which is probably why we connotate it with Islam and not the Arabic language in general. In reality, God (or Allah) has 99 different names in Islam.

Haven't Christians been blending Christianity with folk religions from the start?

Never - that is why we DON"T celebrate Christmas around the winter soltice, Easter around the Spring Soltice, use Christmas Trees or Easter Eggs

But we have one super-Virgin, and they just have 72 lesser virgins.

Mary's actually one of the most important figures in Islam. She's mentioned in the Quran more than the Bible. :kisswink:

All religions are a sham. It is amazing how any intelligent person is religious.
