In between keeping Vice President Biden and his family safe, the Secret Service is also cutting him a rent check every month.

The Secret Service pays the vice president $2,200 per month to rent a cottage next to his waterfront home outside Wilmington, Del., FoxNews.com has confirmed.

The Washington Times first reported that Biden has raked in more than $13,000 since April from the agency tasked with protecting him, and under the terms of their contract could make up to $66,000 by the end of 2013.

Seriously? Even Clinton had the common decency NOT to charge the Secret Service when they were protecting his sorry ass...honestly, the stupidity of these politicians never ceases to amaze me.

The house had been rented out by Biden since his mother passed away, previously she had lived there. When the tenants who were renting it moved, the Secret Service approached Biden about renting the house, they had already been renting property in town to house the agents who were detailed to Biden.

The property provides income to the Biden family and shouldn't have give up the income just because the people staying there are protecting him.

However, Biden should return the money received from the Secret Service and void the lease and allow the agents to occupy the house free of charge.

Hey, I actually like Biden, but one of his flaws has always been that he's a major moocher when it comes to dovetailing his political connections into some nice financial perks.

I agree he shouldn't be taking the money, but the house provides income to his family, and the secret service approached him about renting it.

Let me get this straight:

You take a job that is high-profile and high-risk. So high risk that part of the deal is you are required to have a personal security detail on you at all times. That's part of the job. Not some special perk you request. Those security personnel are stationed in a rented home - say, across the street that they rent from Landlord X. You own the home next door to you - you originally bought it to keep your aging mother close to you and your family - but she passes away. That security detail then asks to stop renting across the street, and start renting next door... how exactly is this a big deal? Shit, maybe he should have just said "no" and taken another renter...

I have no way of knowing - probably not - but it is HIS property, and his employer is going out of pocket to pay for security one way or another - would YOU go out of your own pocket to cover an expense your employer insisted on as necessary for you? I'm just putting the shoe on the other foot - the implication is that somehow the guy is scamming taxpayers - when that isn't the case here.

I'm fairly certain Joe Biden isn't hurting. Squeezing $66,000 out of the US Gov't ($26,400 of which was borrowed from China, by the way ) just proves hes a slimeball of the highest order.
