How Miserable? Index Says the Worst in 28 Years

When it comes to measuring the combination of unemployment and inflation, it doesn’t get much more miserable than this.

In fact, misery, as measured in the unofficial Misery Index that simply totals the unemployment and inflation rates, is at a 28-year high, reflective of how weak the economic recovery has been and how far there is to go........"

I think he has to be impeached before he does any more damage.

I thought the movie Misery wasn't too bad. When that lady broke the guy's ankle with the sledge hammer and block of wood was awesome.

If he'd get over his slobbering love affair with Robin Roberts and try to do something about this sickly economy -- even if I disagreed with it, as I certainly would -- I'd respect him slightly more than I do now (i.e., zero). He's just trying to play four-corners until the election is over. :ohno:

Anybody ever notice how the folks usually wanting the government to keep their nose out of the Business World are usually the same folks blaming Obama for not doing enough to fix the economy? Just sayin'.....

Some of us thrive on misery of others, kind of like farmers do.

You misconstrued my post. My problem with Obama is his avoidance of a position. I already said that I'd likely oppose anything he proposed, but he cravenly avoids the issues.

No.

The issue here is the government getting its fiscal and monetary and houses in order so that the credit markets can be repaired. That does not involve sticking its nose into the business world, as you put it.

Agree. And if you want the government to get it's house in order, bitch at your local representative. The President has very little to do with domestic regulations. How many of the negative issues were a result of Executive Orders?

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Obama fan. But there's enough he's done (or hasn't done) relating to his sphere of direct influence without heaping blame for the shit your local Representative has allowed to happen with little competition (or interest) from your local body politic every 2-6 years....

A huge part of the problem is no one knows what is coming. What is the health reform going to cost my business? Should I hire somebody or should I just wait? What are EPA regs going to do to my utility bill? Should I add on to my plant and hire more people or should I wait and see if I should move it to Mexico instead because my utility costs will skyrocket? What is the next rule or regulation that they are going to come out with? What might it cost me?

Look at all the cash big business is sitting on right now. With all the uncertainty nobody wants to do anything. So they wait and keep piling up the cash.
