(CNN) -- Alabama's governor has signed what he billed as tough illegal immigration legislation, requiring police to check the status of anyone they suspect may be in the country illegally when stopped for another reason. The bill, due to take effect on September 1, was signed into law by Republican Gov. Robert Bentley on Thursday. Its passage makes Alabama the latest in a series of states, including Georgia and Arizona, to enact new laws.

[TX Gov] Perry renews request for fire aid
(6th request since December)

KXAN - Austin, TX ^ | June 11, 2011 | John Bumgardner

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Governor Rick Perry renewed his disaster proclamation Saturday for a sixth time since it was originally issued in December of 2010.

“I am thankful for the ongoing sacrifice from first responders as they continue fighting the wildfires that are ravaging Texas homes and property,” Gov. Perry said. “I urge the federal government to quickly grant Texas the assistance we have requested – and that Texans deserve – to fight these fires. In the meantime, Texas will continue providing all resources possible to respond to one of the worst wildfire seasons in our state’s history.”

In an April 15th letter sent to President Barack Obama , seeking federal aid, Texas was denied federal aid.
Local and state firefighters have responded to more than 11,600 fires that have destroyed more than 460 homes and burned more than 2.8 million acres, an area the size of Rhode Island and Delaware combined.

Meanwhile back on the golf course today Obama had no comment

Nope, just you.

Welcome to global warming fuckwad. Can you say "epic drought"?

You all are screwed.
Snow pack is disappearing too.
Rats are fleeing the sinking ship too. Hope you all burn to death first. Z'all we need is an influx of Arizona racists and global warming deniers seeking refuge and water in our states.

I also suspect I'll be paying for your dumb ass too when the Obama Team flies in to tour the disaster areas and give you billions in relief. I wish the country could vote on who gets federal disaster funds. AZ would maybe get a few votes.

National embarrassment=Arizona

I'm not sure they'd be fleeing to Iowa - isn't that going to be underwater when most of the global warming really starts to hit in the next few years?

Uh....YEAH. It's late June, Einstein.

And the "rats" (read: illegals) are fleeing because one governor finally had the balls to stand up to the Feds and their inability to enforce their own laws. The other good, law abiding folks are fleeing because Obama's lack of any semblance of an economic plan has caused our country to collapse into chaos---while dimwits like you cheer gleefully from the sidelines.

Nice. Hope that makes you proud, Douche1Bag. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

They had a terrible drought in the upper Missouri Basin for years too. The "experts" said it would take years to refill the reservoirs on the Missouri. One year and they are full. Now they are trying to keep places like Pierre, Bismarck, and Sioux City from floating away.

Only man is arrogant enough to believe that he can control or impact Mother Nature.

With heavy rains and spring runoff inundating streams and rivers flowing into the Missouri River Basin, the Fort Peck Reservoir pool on Friday sat just six-tenths of a foot below its record elevation of 2,251.6 feet set on July 14, 1975.For only the fifth time since the dam was completed in 1940, the Corps is releasing water from the massive spillway and in volumes nearly doubling any previous flow.

What a difference a rain makes. The nationwide drought that had farmers, communities and entire states fighting to conserve water has reversed in the most dramatic turnaround since federal scientists began keeping records.
More than 92% of the country is drought-free — the nation's best showing since 1999.

"The lack of drought is extraordinary," said Douglas Le Comte, a meteorologist with the federal Climate Prediction Center.

MORE FROM USA TODAY: Weather and climate science

At the worst of the USA's most recent drought — in August 2007 — almost 50% of the country was involved. Currently, about 7% of the country is in a drought, according to federal scientists. The only part of the USA in "extreme" drought is a small fraction of Hawaii.

In 2007, gigantic portions of the Southeast were in the worst drought in more than a century, sparking water wars among Georgia, Alabama and Florida.

"It was horrid," said Teresa Hammack of Mars Hill, N.C., whose springs ran dry in August 2007 at the height of the Southeast drought. Hammack's home relies entirely on underground springs as a source of water.

"Our springs are running rampant, with clean, fresh water," she said.
Yep. Rampant drought. :coffee: :coffee:

Z, I don't see any of that water/snowpack that is actually IN Arizona...

And as for the waters of the upper Green (Wyoming water/snowpack) your good buddies over in Denver are conspiring to buy out the Green River water.

Can't find cool graphs at the moment like those above, but this should help:

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepubli ... -snow.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Meanwhile, in central Arizona, the snowpack has benefited from some of the same storm systems that swept through the Rocky Mountains. As of Jan. 1, the statewide snowpack was 122 percent of average, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service, which monitors snow levels.

The Verde River Basin is in the best condition, with snowpack at 148 percent of average. The Mogollon Rim is at 120 percent of average, the San Francisco Peaks are at 124 percent and the upper Salt River is at 109 percent of average.
The Salt and Verde rivers are the source of more than one-third of the Valley's water supply.

The healthy snowpack was unexpected because La Niña conditions had developed this fall. La Niña, a lowering of water temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, typically steers storms away from Arizona, producing drier-than-average winters.

"It's very unusual for a La Niña year," said Charlie Ester, water-resources manager for Salt River Project, which delivers water from the Salt and Verde rivers. "We don't know if it's going to continue. Our best guess is that it won't."

SRP's reservoirs are 86 percent full, compared with 73 percent at this time a year ago. A late-January storm last year all but filled the reservoirs and, after more rain and snow fell, SRP was forced to release water down the Salt.

Yep. Record drought. :coffee:
Yep. Missouri River dams are releasing at DOUBLE the rate of the previous record. Previous record was around 75,000 cfs. By the end of the week the dams should be at 150,000 cfs. Emergency spillways on the dams are being used for the first time EVER.
