I'm with the consensus on Gingrich, he's gone - which is weird because he knows how to play the game and he has very little competition.

Including himself.

I wonder what his staff just found out that we don't know yet.

Because it's a fuckin' Rite Aid. Do you know why they use it? Because no one will see them. I mean who shops there?

It's very rare indeed to have a staff quit en masse at any level... but especially this one. Even if the campaign is going down in flames, people will peel off as they find new jobs - not all jump at once and cause a headline - it's one of those unwritten rules about behavior on a campaign - even in quitting or getting fired you're expected to protect the campaign.

Leads me to believe it's not the sinking ship they're abandoning, but rather Newt as a person. Usually a mass exodus like this occurs after either a) the candidate completely ignores unanimous consensus from his senior staff on a major strategic decision that the staff see as reckless or disrespectful or b) the candidate said or did something to one of the senior staff - or attempted to fire a member of the senior staff unjustly - and triggered the whole group to bail. Given the number of self-interested people on any campaign - and given the levels of ambition involved - usually someone stays on - hoping they can be handed the conch and put in charge - have their name on the door... so to have this happen raises a LOT of questions about the whys and wherefores.

and yes, as if it wasn't already a moribund campaign... it's all over now.
