57% are somewhat or very closely following discussions on raising the debt ceiling
47% want their congressman to vote against raising the debt ceiling
73% blame the budget deficit on spending too much on programs
48% believe we should reduce the deficit only or mostly with spending cuts; 11% believe it should be reduced only or mostly with tax increases
77% (equally split) believe Medicare and SSI costs are already causing or will cause a financial crisis within 10 years
64% worry about the deficit and federal spending "a great deal", and another 23% worry about it a "fair amount"
50% want the debt ceiling raised ONLY if there's an agreement on a deficit reduction plan in place (versus only 16% who would be willing to raise the ceiling without a plan)

And the coup 'd grace:

Next, how important is it to you that the president and Congress deal with each of the following issues in the next year -- is it -- extremely important, very important, moderately important, or not that important?

Federal Budget Deficit:

2011 Jan 7-9 44% 40% 12% 3% 2%
2007 Jan 5-7 42% 34% 19% 3% 1%
2004 Dec 17-19 35% 42% 18% 3% 2%
2003 Jan 3-5 32% 36% 25% 5% 2%
2002 May 28-29 25% 37% 28% 8% 2%

84% of those polled believe it's either EXTREMELY IMPORTANT or VERY IMPORTANT for congress and the president to deal with the federal budget defict...up from 62% in 2002.....

You go ahead and keep thinking it's only about who the Republicans put up as a candidate, though....
:dunce:

people will tell pollsters that - it's like saying you care about the environment - everyone says they do - whether or not it effects their vote is another matter entirely.

consider your own quote 62% said it was EXTREMELY or VERY important in 2002... really didn't move the needle politically nine years ago...

Those that have their shorts in a wad over raising the debt ceiling don't have a clue of what they are protesting, have not a clue as to what it is, and worse than that, they refuse to be informed of the consequences of not raising the ceiling.

Folks that fucking stupid should be deported, or at least traded to Mexico for some good landscaping laborers.

Won't affect me...I'm going to retire in a few years. I'll just be avoiding his death panels

You young folks that voted for the fiscal idiot and his gang will be the ones suffering.
So you got that going for you.

Obama Economy Hits Young People the Hardest
ATR ^ | 2011-06-06 | Nathan Lictman

The days of wearing an Obama t-shirt to a frat party might be over.

The Daily Caller reports that only 27-percent of likely voters ages 18-28 say they are committed to vote for Obama again, down from the 83-percent that say they did vote for him. Why the shift? Obama wants to tax and spend, leaving this young generation to pick up the slack. This is certainly a plausible answer. Let’s take a look at some of the ways in which Obama is hurting these young people.

DEBT: Obama has asked for a clean debt increase, meaning that the U.S. would continue to spend by borrowing the money. He doesn’t want to cut spending and doesn’t even seem willing to compromise.

Borrowing these large amounts of money will only place harder and more severe debts on these people under 30. It is them, not the current maturing generation that make up most of the legislature and Obama’s administration, who will foot the bill...

Country wasn't in economic collapse 9 years ago.

Why? Millions and millions of people just like that blindly voted for Obama in 2008....they're his bread and butter.

Thank you, Mr. Plouffe. :coffee:

Taken to their logical conclusion, your remarks imply that no poll is reliable -- on any issue -- because people answering polls are never straight-up with their questioners.

Apparently TTBF felt sorry for Opie, and decided to take a few shots to the nuts himself...  :dunce:

These are your republicans I am referring to, and the GOP folks in congress seem in no hurry to 'splain this thing to their foaming constituency.

Some of the same dumb-asses I see around here in sweatshirts with the sleeves torn out driving a 1972 F-250, and flying faded out confederate flags. Most of 'em are on food stamps I'm bettin'.

I despise this trash myself. They do THE CAUSE a disservice. Off to the camps with them.

Of course unless there were a poll saying how great Obama's economy is. That would be a more scientific and trustworthy poll. :coffee:

I get that, but on the flip side are millions and millions of people who haven't a clue what Obama REALLY stands for, refuse to be informed of it, and blindly vote for him anyways because they're convinced he's their savior and is going to make their rent payments and car payments for them.

Polls really aren't reliable because you can get different answers to the same question from a person based on how it's worded.

He stands for getting re-elected - like all politicians. But what do you think he really stands for?

Z, you know and I know that Obama kicked ass because he was the supposed "anti-Bush", and if you want to recall, anything at the time that was anti-Bush was going to be a winner, no matter what or who. McCain was seen as Bush Lite, a wimp that got his ass kicked by the same Bush/Rove slime machine, and so the general public sans the conk underground (El-Baldosaurus) and the conk romanticists (yourself) voted black (and may not come back) just to rid their bowels of Bush, who in fact is the fucker that really fucked things up that makes where we actually are today..
a friggin miracle.

At least this guy knows who our enemies are, and hasn't invaded the wrong country...yet, nor declared victory at the sound of the first quarter ending...yet.

O'Bama, O'Bomba, and O'Bummer who raised my taxes  has a long way to go to be as big a fuck up as chimpy, and we Repubs don't really even have a candidate yet.

Socialized medicine would have the providers working for the government and no private insurance.

The wealth gap is growing.

(gawdammit, I really don't want to defend this guy, but you conks keep hating for the wrong reasons)

Every major policy decision related to our (now) three front war was retained from the Bush administration....despite RAMPANT raging against the machine during the runup to the election.

Every fucked up policy decision related to government spending under the Bush administration was put on steroids by Obama and his minions.

He's taken a terrible situation and made it measurably worse with a massive extension of government and spending the likes of which we've never seen. And spending and entitlement programs are like crack cocaine...once the minions get a taste, all they care about is getting MORE.

Redistribution of wealth...
Doggoneit, Kalm, we've been through that before. Wealth is not a fixed quantity. It's quite possible for the "wealth gap" to grow without redistribution of wealth.
