Daniels Decides Against Presidential Run

After months of stewing and despite widespread encouragement from many within his party, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels sent out an e-mail to supporters early Sunday saying he had decided against jumping into the 2012 presidential race
The decision is sure to disappoint the governor's many supporters, among them several prominent Republican governors who thought Mr. Daniels's deep résumé and record as cost-cutter in Indiana would add ballast to the 2012 GOP field.
In the end, he said, the decision came down to family. "I was able to resolve every competing consideration but one, but that, the interests and wishes of my family, is the most important consideration of all," he said in an e-mail sent after midnight.

I was really hoping Daniels would run...I would have done well...
But knowing the pressure on families, I understand...

Was surprised by Daniels not running. I believe he would have become one of the favorites. Surprising since the Republican nominee will most likely be the next president.

Mark my words, unless the economy greatly improves over the next year (very unlikely to happen), Obama doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell.

I don't need a lame-brained half-wit speaking for me, so shut your trap.
Z is waiting to see who the candidate is before I make any claim.

I underestimated the stupidity of the American sheeple. You included.

Really? You managed to do that after they elected W twice?

I was for Daniels before it was cool. But the wolves of the press would have ignored his considerable executive talents in their lemming-like quest for the "real story" behind his unusual marital history. It's the country's loss-- and Sortero's gain.

Agreed that it is the country's loss. We need a competitive, issues driven candidate - if nothing else, to focus attention on the issues, not the personalities.

Four words, junior (and remember, you were still in diapers then):
John Kerry
Al Gore

Yeah, McCain and Palin were a dream ticket for the GOP.

Don't believe I said that. You talking to yourself again? Keep living in 2008, dumbass....look where that got your party in 2010.

Right now at this stage of the game I think a likely scenario will be an Obama re-election and the House and Senate will further swing to the GOP.
Without Daniels, the GOP field is largely a joke. Only Romney and Pawlenty add any credibility, and they have their issues. I could certainly see independent voters pulling the lever for Obama in this one, but offsetting that vote with votes for GOP legislative seats.
That being said, Bill Clinton was a virtual unknown at this point AND there's lots of time for the amateur hour at the WH to continue to alienate independents.

Jesus. You said Bush was elected twice because the Dems put up shit candidates in opposition. I countered by saying that part of the reason Obama won, comfortably even, was the fact that McCain and Palin were the best the Repubs had to offer. Deep breaths, Z, deep breaths.

Yup - Pawlenty is looking very much like Dole, or Gore, or Kerry - just a bland and boring candidate that will invariably go on to lose.
But it's always been Obama's election to lose - the economy will have to not change in a year or actually get worse and then Obama would be vulnerable, even to Pawlenty. However, it's unlikely to happen - things aren't great, and there's no promise it will get great anytime soon, but there's a slow, gradual sense of progress. It's not awe-inspiring, but it's enough to get re-elected, especially against a dud candidate.

What do expect? Wasn't that long ago he was telling us that picking Palin for VP was a political masterstroke.
(They only elected W once. The first time he was appointed by the SCOTUS)

That's good stuff right there.
It would really neat juxtaposed with some of T'man's verbal flatulence on the same subject.

What a pussy. HW was sitting at 90% popularity after Gulf War and less than a year before the election of '92, and Bill Clinton kicked a mud hole in his ass and stomped it dry. Honks need to find a candidate with some balls. Pitiful.
