Items you have "illegally" carried on a plane

Finally got around to fully unpacking from a trip two weeks ago.
Discovered I had left a small bottle (12-oz) of Gatorade in my carry-on bag, unopened of course. Limit is 3-oz. Bottle should have been pretty clear to see in the x-ray. Glad our TSA is paying attention at Houston Hobby Airport.

Brought back a small bottle of schnapps from Austria when I was 19. Guy at customs in Seattle gave me some shit about it, but let me keep it in the end.

On both ends - letting ammo through is insane. Carrying ammo through is not very smart - could have been in serious trouble.

Like you, he'd forgotten it was in one of the side pockets of his backpack...didn't realize it until he got BACK home and was unpacking...to make matters worse, he flew international to MEXICO...imagine if those fuckers in Mexico had found it!

Damn. I thought the screwdriver that I forgot was in my carryon bag was bad that made it through on the way out. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), it was found on the way back and I felt like such a dumbass for having it with me. Kind of funny that the TSA person was apologizing that they had to take it away - I just said my fault and walked away feeling like an idiot for having it with me and wondered how it got through on the way up.

This thread reminded me of the time my wife and I, and another couple, traveled to the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Leaving through T&C customs, I was asked whether I had brought anything to the island that I was not returning with.
I responded, "No."
My buddy joked, "Well, that's not true, you left a whole box of golf balls you came with on the golf course."
The agent detained us for about 10 minutes. He had no idea what golf balls were, and it took a while to explain why this was just a joke.

Some mighty potent water hazards in the Turks & Caicos, JJ!

My wife unknowingly carried a pot pipe from Charlotte to Grand Rapids and back to Charlotte before discovering in her coat pocket as we were waiting for baggage claim.
I knowingly carried an 1-2 8balls from:
2006: Asheville > Atlanta > Frankfurt > Helsinki > Tampere
2007: Asheville > Detroit > Amsterdam > Helsinki
2008: Charlotte > Denver > Missoula
Boy, was that stupid on all 3 accounts....I mean seriously, the first 2 were business trips....

...it's really amazing that I am:
1- alive
2- not incarcerated
3- employed
..when you think about some of the stupid shit I have done....

I usually smuggle in an immigrant or two when I fly back from overseas. The supplemental income is pretty nice.

Friend of a friend kept a few hits of acid in his suitcase on a flight to Amsterdam in December. Couldn't help but shake my head at that one.

I hear the Bangladeshis will fit in your inside jacket pocket, but the Mexicans tend to be a bit larger. Where do you hide them?

You didn't bring back a couple from Tucson to help around the house?

Prior to 9/11, I always carried a 9" blade butcher (carving) knife in my carry-on computer case. My routine was to go grocery shopping upon landing, buying stuff for lunches/dinners during my stay. Got tired of dropping $10-25 on a carving knife at each destination, so just started carrying my own knife and corkscrew. Had a Henckels dissapper from my checked luggage, so I started carrying it onboard.
Post 9/11, I was REAL careful. Slipped up a couple of times, but TSA was always cool about it...confiscated the items (knives, lighters) and let me on my way.

Nah, it was a full flight, and the overhead bins were packed.

Went through Paris, had a pat down and the guards searched my bag. I was good to go. When I got to the States, the TSA found a corkscrew in my carryon.

Surprised the frog didn't "dig deep enough" to find where he was hiding it...
