Should the government release the pic(s) or not and why?
Personally, I want transparency.

Absolutely.

I think releasing them is tantamount to parading a head around on a pike... and will only serve to inflame, and be used as a propaganda piece by terrorists. I think we're better than that.

While I understand the pull of wanting the photos released to "prove it"... I believe it will do more harm than good... and in the long run undermine what we've sought to do.

Pros:
* Except for expandspanos, it should quell the conspiracy theorists
* Provides a bit of closure for victims' relatives

Cons:
* Inflames the radical end of the Muslim world (I think the simple prescence of the US on a map fills that hatred....)

These people are always "inflamed". Whether we do or don't will have no effect on that state of mind. As for me, I am strangely ambivalent.

So, let the conspiracy theorists crank up their machines....this is going to get just like the birther issue and eventually they'll have to just release the fucking pictures anyway to shut people up.

Why not just avoid all that drama?

Release the photos immediately but only those that do not in any way jeopardize the sensitive nature of the identities of the SEALs and the way the mission was carried out. One day I hope to see the "helmet cam" videos of the mission as well under the same care as to guard the mission.

As for the Muslim street, fuck them and the camel they rode in on. MEMO: They already hate us and will use anything as an excuse to incite the incitable. The hell with them... you can't reason with them, you can't convince them, all you can do is neutralize them or eliminate them.

you're right about the conspiracy theorists... but, they've already fired up their machines... you can't reason with their level of stupid, nor should you.

At some point the photos should be released - but that point is years away.

I'm with you on seeing the video, but it will never happen IMO - too much tactical information would be given away.

That didn't shut up the conspiracy theorists on the birther issue. Nothing will. Releasing a picture of a dead Osama won't shut up the conspiracy theorists either. They'll just claim it's a doctored photo... like they claim about Obama's birth certificate. You can't win. Best to just ignore them and move on.

Interesting. Honestly, I don't think anyone should care about what the conspiracy theorists think so that point is moot. That said, I think they'll eventually be released. They may just not be doing it in the short-term to make it easier for the US and allied countries to talk with the Taliban/Al-Q and possibly put an end to this war.

Disagree. IMHO the photos should have been released within hours. Every minute that goes by just adds fuel to a completely avoidable fire. Stupidity at the highest levels....much like the conspiracy theorists already being fired up, the radical extremists already hate us and are planning retribution so what harm is there in releasing the photos? Are they going to hate us MORE? Is that possible?

AZ, ya gotta admit that he gave Trump a wet newspaper across the nose with the timing of the birth certificate release and effectively negated any momentum he was gaining. Couple that with the Osama killing and we're looking at 4 more years like it or not.
