Well, the C in CPAC does stand for conservative...and at the CPAC meeting today in Washington, a true conservative (Texas Representative Ron Paul) won the presidential strawpoll vote...

With participants naming "reducing the size of federal government" as their top issue, the 74-year old libertarian hero captured 31 percent of the 2,400 votes cast in the annual contest, usually seen as a barometer of how the GOP's conservative wing regards their potential presidential candidates.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney finished second with 22 percent of the vote, ending a three-year winning streak at CPAC. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin finished third with 7 percent of the vote, followed by Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty at 6 percent and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence at 5 percent.

I'd vote for that little fucker in a heartbeat. The Republicans aren't a conservative party any more though, so he'll never be nominated.

I hope the Ron Paul thing is starting to catch on cuz he's one of the few honest men out there that will state what he's going to do and then work toward that.

Hope it snowballs and he gets it this time around but they're gonna try and tear away at him with bs like age. I don't care though he's the guy no matter where he lands for me.

I think he's the only Congressman that walks it like he talks it and returns whatever part of his Congressional budget back to the treasure every year that he does not need to run his office. Never asked for an earmark and so on.

Thank goodness. I would have had to do some soul-searching if the simpletons at CPAC, who've been cheering the speeches of the Bachman's & Cheney's of their party all week, suddenly grew a brain & embraced true conservatism as represented by Ron Paul. Glad to see he's no more than a diversion until the love child of Palin-David Duke-Hannity triangle is age eligible....

I'd rather go down fighting the good fight than win with a RINO like Bush, Palin, Romney, etc. Ron Paul is far from a whack job, if we'd listened to his economic and foreign policies, we'd be in a lot better shape. As it were, we listened to those that you wouldn't describe as "whack jobs" and we're doing great.

They are all for big government, as are the Democrats...its just they two sides differ on which part of government should be big...

RINOS and the Democrats have no problem taking away liberties in favor of the government doing something for you...they just differ on which liberties to snatch and what jobs the government should perform...

Rep. Paul is truly for smaller government...returning to what our founding fathers envisioned for this country...a Constitutional-based federal government, with all remaining powers entrusted to the states...

Paul seems like the obvious choice considering all the other available choices

Unfortunately...sad, but true.

Ron Paul is more electable than folks think. A lot of people like myself think he's too far right on economics but think a term or two of him would do America good. I like Paul because...

We do need to close down some of our bases oversees.
We do need to abolish the fed or at least make changes to the system.
We do need to get rid of the worthless departments of homeland security and education.
We do need to get the US out of the UN.
We do need to make changes to social security because it is NOT sustainable.

Heck, even Ralph Nader says he'd be good for America...

How is Ron Paul off his rocker?

Just finished End The Fed (based on recommendations here) and I'm still trying to digest it. It was definitely filled with ideas that I hadn't even considered but just because I never studied Austrian economics (Econ minor who was only fed Keynes vs. Friedman) doesn't mean their points don't have validity. The book did make me want to find a counterpoint for comparison but I'm not sure I can find one that doesn't simply dismiss the Austrians as "being off their rockers" without a real argument as to why.

I'm not sure how feasible a gold standard is but I agreed with Paul's points about the Fed's power and the dangers and abuses of a fiat currency.
