Who knows if this is "voluntary"? But, never mind that, the coach, an instrument of the state, knows that it is, A) going on and, B) against the law.
Kids can pray all they want, even in school, as long as they do it privately and don't molest the enlightened freethinking thoughts of rational, sane people who do not believe in ghosts and who are there to get a good, well-rounded secular education. Go to private school if you wanna drool on and on about, and embarrass yourself over, this "God" guy..

So, in your mind, they have to go hide in the janitor's closet to pray?

What do you think, Bluto?
Edit: And, fvck you. You're on my side of this one, anyway, you money-worshipping heathen fvck. You don't give a fvck about religion.

So Cap'n, I say grace before every meal, no matter where I am at, because I'm thankful for the food that I am about to eat. If you and I were at a fave restaurant and you saw me offer grace, would you file a lawsuit against me claiming I have wronged you somehow? After all, it's not "in private" is it?

Your meal isn't being paid for with taxpayer dollars.

Ah. So THAT'S where we draw the line between freedom of religion and a gestapo state.
Gotcha.

I see your point, Z, but as the thread title suggest, this really gets a burr in my fur. It's damned near the only thing that enrages Cap'n Cat - church/state stuff.

No, it's called separation of church and state. I guarantee you fuckers would be outraged if a group of Muslim students got together and prayed before a game.

Absolutely horrified. But, on the other hand, You'd be fucking GIDDY if that happened.
And NOONE would EVER dare to question the actions of a muslim in America. That would be non-PC.

So I feel pretty confident that ain't ever gonna happen.

No, I wouldn't. As long as beliefs aren't being forced on people, then you have no right to be angry.
I highly doubt that this was ordered or made manditory in ANY way by a coach or administrator. I'm sure these kids did it on their own, and the fact that some of you can get upset about something so innocent is kind of sad.

Mountie, man, let me tell you about Cap'n Cat a little - when I see people pray in restaurants, stores, wherever, I feel good for them, honest to goodness. I feel great because our country is the kind of country that values diversity and grants the freedom for them to do so unmolested.
HOWEVER, when it comes to government entities (teaches, coaches, school districts, athletic associations) even TACITLY endorsing (thus promoting) a particular religion (
because you know those fvcking soccer players above weren't chanting verses from the fvcking Quran), then I start swinging.

Oh, bullsh*t, DJH. You don't know, nor do I. If so, it's worse! Remember, the fact that it is going on and is allowed is wrong.
My tax dollars are going to pay for a coach who flippantly breaks the law!

And how in the hell have they "endorsed" this? And how do you know that they weren't chanting the Quran? I think you just assumed they weren't, because you felt like hating christianity today.
