It was either a bad analogy or are you actually trying to say porn, merely by it's existance, is a deterrent to misogyny and violence against women.

Some here have said for some people it could be said that porn acts as a release thereby keeping people from becoming violent, and I can see that. But would you refute the opposite? That some people might become more violent toward from porn.

if anything, that supports my analogy :kisswink:

Nukes have prevented world wars in the last few decades, as porn has prevented rape. Since 1991 and the advent of internet porn, rape had dropped 86% and divorce rates have dropped 25%

Your "it has been a factor in the past, therefore it contributes" is bullshit, simply because of the overwhelming positive contribution in preventing violence and rape has shown as a result. Just like Nukes have prevented global conflict, as has porn diminished rape. So to say, Nukes were dropped on Japan, therefore they cause more suffering than prevents suffering is just like saying porn does more harm in comparison to good, which is dishonest based on the statistics.

 First on the analogy... it's a bad analogy because AFAIK a nuclear weapon hasn't been used in 60+ years so again, unless your claim is that porn, merely by it's existance (and not use), is a deterrent, your analogy is poor.

But more importantly, are you really going to try to make a connection to a drop in rape and divorce based on a date when internet porn was invented (BTW, since you were 9 in 1991, I seriously doubt that you'd know that internet porn in 1991 was pretty much limited to Playboy on a monitor)?

BTW, I'm not sure where you got your figures anyway. A google search of rape dropping 86% only appears in a few blogs and your post is the fourth entry. When I look for crime figures I find that homicide, burglary, motor vehicle theft are all down more than rape since 1991. Are you going to extend internet porns magical powers to those as well? I also find that violent crimes jumped in 2006. Maybe you want to rethink your claims.

I believe since you were making the connection (weakly) that porn is a catalyst for those things he made the reverse. Did you have some information linking the two? I've seen speculation from the "holier than thou, no better than you" standpoint but not anything that could be seriously considered as some sort of evidence. yt at least took a step in that direction.

Made up info is not any better than no info (I actually think it's worse). Like I said, I doubt there's been a good study either way and I was very clear that it was my opinion.

Also, taking it from "contributing factor" to "catalyst"? Please don't put words in my mouth. ;)

If everyone had porn, everyone would get horny. The horny would get off. Getting off releases endorphines. Endorphines make you happy. Happy people don't commit crimes. Happy people are usually more generous. Generous people help those less fortunate. BOOM! I JUST SOLVED ALL THE WORLD PROBLEMS! PORN USE HAS A DIRECT LINK TO THE REDUCTION IN CRIME, HOMELESSNESS, HUNGER, COMMUNISM AND HIV/AIDS.

Chicago Sentinel numbers.....I'll be sure to look for them.

violent crimes=we've been in a recession

the point is, you're making claims without posting evidence, much as Santorum did.

1991=2.2 per 1000 instances of rape.

1009= 0.3

2.2/.03= about 7

But the use of contributing factors as a broad sweeping argument is pretty weak ain't it? Women having rapable parts is a contributing factor as well in the context you are implying?

Great. So ALL crime is down. Again, are you going to take a stance that porn has somehow curbed burglary?

It is weak, but that's all I claimed and that's why I insisted people didn't try to escalate this into "catalyst" or "the main factor" or anything more than "contributing".

Sure. Why do you neuter a dog? Get rid of that nasty catalyst ( :D ) and things calm down all over the place.

Of course it also explains the recession.

You might be on to something. The Washington Redskins decline can also be traced to the end of the 1991 football season. Could it be internet porn?

Nah. It was a weak claim from the start, I pretty much acknowledged that all along. I don't have a dog in this fight so there's no need to keep going on. Besides, YT is getting smarmy again so I should stop.
