They did tell us this shut down would have unintended adverse impacts.

Up under that now but yesterday was a bigger drop than the gains so far and had been dropping for the past week or 2. Today was not surprising so all of the panic selling already happened. If you are selling today based on the shutdown, you are too late.DSUrocks07 wrote:BTW, the market is up about 1% across the board...
Once this gets figured out, market will drop again towards the middle of the month as everyone panics about raising the debt ceiling (or whether/when it will happen) - or it may not recover until the debt ceiling is raised.

Fuck, my cousin and I were planning on a trip to Yellowstone next weekend. Looks like it'll probably be snowmobile season before the children in Washington get their shit together.

Re: Government shutdowns and public relations
Yeah, that's mature.Senate Democrats on Tuesday voted to refuse to enter into official negotiations with the House on a spending bill, saying there can be no talks until the GOP agrees to end the shutdown that began Tuesday morning.

Talk about bad public relations...the 0Bama Administration had barriers put up around the World War II Memorial...no one works there except the police that protect it, and they are still working...
So a group of WWII veterans, on a long scheduled trip to their memorial, were blocked...until several Republican members of cCongress moved the barriers, cut the police tape, and escorted the veterans into the Memorial...
WTF...BLOCK OFF THE WWII MEMORIAL...
That's just plan evil on the part of the Administration...

I'm glad my representative is one of the moderate Republicans. He's against the ACA, but at least he's not dumb enough to want a shutdown 'cause he doesn't like a law that legally passed through the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

So, the ACA funding is separate from the budget so it went into effect anyway. Congress could have chosen to extend the previous budget while they figure things out and instead did this. Yay!!!!

Re: Government shutdowns and public relations
The Republican House passed a bill that fully funds govt to sequestration levels and funds Obamacare but delays the individual mandate for the folks for 1 year. If King Obama can use an exexcutive order to delay the employer mandate for big business for one year, why can't the individual mandate for the common folks be delayed for one year.∞∞∞ wrote:I'm glad my representative is one of the moderate Republicans. This was the House's 2nd attempt at compromise, but Obama and Harry Reid wanted none of it. Obama and Reid wanted a shutdown an they got it.

Re: Government shutdowns and public relations
I'm kinda curious about something... since the Supreme Court ruled the individual mandate was a tax, how does 0bama- by presidential decree- exempt some people (including businesses, as they are people for legal purposes) from the tax while others are forced to pay the tax? Is that constitutional? Does he even have the authority to do so? Shouldn't that be a congrssional responsibility?

I was hoping that's the case but traffic sucked ass again this morning. Would seem every road between my house and work (only 7 miles) is having utility work done... Pepco trimming trees, WSSC working on sewer, installing sidewalks... is TARP still going??93henfan wrote:I guess the one nice side effect of the shutdown for me, Col H, Trip, and 89Hen is that there will be 300,000 less motherfuckers on the road at rush hour in the DC area.

Great commentary from CNN:

I'm paying taxes for what? No government, no taxes, I want a refund. I wonder how the IRS would treat that itemized deduction this winter????
