We've all seen it in other areas. A presentation is going on, something wrong is said or happens and it doesn't get a mention until afterwards. If it's something of little importance like mistakenly saying Mr. Obama. Now, if she said that Dolly Madison signed that 32 Amendment into law in 1944 granting us freedom of speech, then she should've corrected herself on camera.![]()

Exactly. Bush, from all impressions, doesn't have a stick up his ass like Obama.BlueHen86 wrote:I'm sure they both recognized their mistakes. Bush was more comfortable laughing his off. It was part of his charm. Obama seems to take himself too seriously.LeadBolt wrote:

So picky children don't like the change in their food? Shocking. What a travesty! The horror! How dare she try and help kids eat healthy when the food is provided by the government. OH THE OUTRAGE!!!!!!!

Mostly provided by the local and state govts. The fed subsidy is only a portion. Here is an example of that from this month from Illinois's largest school district:Ibanez wrote:BDKJMU wrote:Well, since Moochelle's school lunch program was brought up, its turned out to be a giant clusterf**k.

"...The Arlington Heights-based Township High School District 214 school board voted Thursday to cut itself loose from the U.S. Department of Agriculture program, even though the decision creates uncertainty for low-income students who rely on the program’s reduced-price meals. The district will also lose a related $900,000 federal subsidy.
That dollar amount is outstripped by the $2.2 million in annual food service revenue that comes from the a la carte menu, which sells things like pizza, fries and Subway sandwiches. The district also said it gets $543,000 in revenue from vending machines....."

And as far as the federal subsidy, where do you think that $$ came from? The fed govt took it from the people in those localities & states, then returned some of it and used that as an excuse to dictate to local school districts what they can and can't serve. Here's a novel idea- How about the fed govt not taking that $$ from the states in the 1st place, and let parents, local school boards and politicians decide what they want for their school districts.

There's nothing wrong with trying to get kids to eat healthier. But this program is seriously fucked up. Our school just got inspected by USDA. We got wrote up because we didn't take condiments into account when calculating daily calorie intake. So if we serve hamburgers we have to take into account that kids may put a tablespoon of ketchup on their hamburger which is 20 calories. We also have to count the calories in the ketchup that kids might put on the side for their french fries. The inspector wants us to have a person monitoring condiment usage because if a kid puts two tablespoons of ketchup on his fries he goes over the calorie count.Ibanez wrote:Would you rather these kids eat healthy or scarf down fat and carb rich foods which make them sleepy and useless in the afternoon?BDKJMU wrote:

And it gets even dumber. A bunch of the high school kids are getting mom or dad to bring them Subway for lunch because they don't like all this health shit and/or because for a lot of teenage boys it isn't enough food, especially athletes. The inspector asked how the kids got Subway. She then asked if we allow homemade lunches to be brought in. We said yes. She then got pissed and wanted to know why our school hasn't banned lunches brought from outside - whether it be Subway or something from home - because we can't guarantee that it is healthy. WTF?
Kids aren't getting fat because of what they eat at school. Kids are fat because mom and dad's don't take any responsibility for what their kids eat. They are fat because they don't go outside and do physical activity like we did as kids.

I agree with you, numb nuts. But the fact remains, the govt is trying to do something positive. Quit bitching about it and doing nothing to correct the issue. Just like Obamacare. It's not perfect, far from it, but no Republican has offered a single alternative or improvement to the law.BDKJMU wrote:I'd rather the parents, local school boards, local & state govts decide.Ibanez wrote:

It's ridiculous, I agree, and healthy eating begins and ends at home.
