Seattle Police - and - Public Records...

Post by Chizzang »

The Seattle Police department continues to lead the Nation
in making dash cam and police video easy to access as public records...

"As Captain Wagers ate his lunch that day in November, mulling over the department’s public-records conundrum and the new chief’s orders, he decided to tweet his nemesis. Withdraw your public-records requests and “work with us as a partner,” he wrote. “I’ll set you up with our IT person tomorrow.”

Seattle police department was inundated with public records requests from two nagging software programmers who were relentless in their harassment of the department... So the Department hired them

Point being:
Police Departments around the country are being being inundated with video and dash cam requests from Lawyers and concerned citizens - you might call it a trend...

Best advice:
Get in front of the trend

Not a bad idea really

But there's a downside (not that it should affect anything)

I can't wait to see dead and dismembered 8 year olds in YouTube as a result of FOIA requests

That was covered in the VERY LONG article
these software programmers are writing software that's smart enough to automate face blurs and badge blurs as well as blood - there's more as well

These signatures have a 500 character limit?

What if I have more personalities than that?

That's all fine and good

But your next door neighbors and your coffee shop friends and most importantly you will know whose blood it is

I just lost another friend and colleague to suicide a couple weeks ago- imagine having to work the murder scene where your best friend was shot through- this is going to be the final loss of dignity for a lot of peopke.

I regularly encourage all of my former colleagues to not trot, but sprint for the exits- there is life and fulfillment after law enforcement

Let Al and Jesse go do it

The "good" that you refer to is probably not the "good" that makes me in favor of the body cams and more access to that media.

Most people think it will reinforce the claims that police are out to kill black people.

What I know is that it will bed down MANY myths and false assumptions, and it will exonerate exponentially more officers than it will ever indict

And that is the "good" that I see

But it isn't going to be pretty
