Where in Seattle ?

I agree, but a lot of people at Starbucks think they are just so cool
Renton, South Center, and downtown in the past.
Speaking of downtown, my son sent me some pictures of some huge blue tarp homeless encampments right under Alaskan Way near the baseball and football stadiums

40 years ago I could walk from the 399 foot red yacht right into Pioneer Square without any problems whatsoever… Seattle has changed for the worse

And you still can. My son and his girlfriend have been there several times lately for concerts. We have a ton of family and friends that live near downtown.

BTW there is no Alaskan Way Viaduct. It was torn down in 2019 and replaced by a tunnel for through traffic and a ground level street on top.

Look at how bad it’s become!

Almost all cities are blue.

It’s way worse in the cities that are so deep blue they would elected a wackadoodle commie like Mandami or that chick in Seattle; Portland, San Fran, LA, Chicago etc, than it is in cities that are light to moderately blue. Basically the deep blue cities in the deep blue states.

10 worst cities for rates of homeless (2023):
1. LA
2. New York
3. Seattle
4. San Jose, CA

6. Sacramento
7. Phoenix

Blue cities do tend to let sensitivity to homelessness get in the way of enforcing laws and ordinances.

Where is the weather really cold? Missoula bums would hop on the trains and leave town before winter arrived.

By the way, there are areas of Seattle you do not want to be around.

Truth. Empathy can get you in trouble.

It’s almost all mental health related with substance abuse being the self medication.

It’s a tough problem that communities struggle with. Simply Displacing them doesn’t solve their issues.

No, it doesn't. Ignoring or enabling them doesn't solve their issues either and it frequently punishes law-abiding citizens who live and/or own businesses near them.

Yep.

The only real success I’ve read about is out of Lethbridge, Alberta. The city partnered with private businesses and opened a large, closely supervised facility that provided beds, food, medical care, and professional substance abuse recovery incuding medical detox (quitting cold turkey, even from alcohol can kill someone from withdrawal complications)

I noticed Miami ain’t on that list

Miami is booming, you could say well it’s been booming for 25 years or even 60 years (Thank you Fidel, as you rot in hell just know you can claim that you built a big part of Miami)

but something else is going on now

One of the big differences is they actually enforce the law down here, they don’t put up with that nonsense that NYC and other silly blue cities enable

No state income tax and no city income tax and I’m noticing a lot of transplants down here and that’s not all necessarily good. Even rich elitist Democrats will flee the Northeast for places like Miami and they are bringing that rude Nyc bravado like flashing their lights, blowing the damn horn and acting obnoxious on the roads… I have never seen that obnoxious behavior before down here

Bottom line is Miami is so different than the horrible blue big cities on BDKs list

And although the demographics are changing with people coming in from all over the place, somehow the older Cuban generation still has them remembering why they left communist Cuba….

A lesson in history that all school kids children should learn is the comparison between Miami and Havana.

We have mistaken love for the removal of hardship, lowered standards in the name of compassion and avoided hard conversations in the name of sensitivity. You forgot to attribute the quote. But I have a guess. :)

Mental health disorders and strict upbringings aren’t always one in the same. Regardless, access to talk and pharmacological therapies are needed in both instances.
