I read it a bit differently: Osama attacking the US may be the only thing that gets the current administration's attention AWAY from the miserable policy failures of cap and trade and universal healthcare. Michael F. Scheuer is a former CIA employee. In his 22-year career, he served as the Chief of the Bin Laden Issue Station (aka "Alec Station"), from 1996 to 1999, the Osama bin Laden tracking unit at the Counterterrorist Center. He then worked again as Special Advisor to the Chief of the bin Laden unit from September 2001 to November 2004. Were there to be another attack, the American people may begin to demand security, as they did under Bush right after 9/11. He proposed that the attack would spur people into a new direction. He said more than once that Osama would have to be an idiot to attack right now and that if he waits, complacency will likely make it easier to produce a catastrophic event.
