Re: Team Trump v/s Everyone
Wrong. It wasn’t. He hasn’t been convicted of engaging in such even if it was. Show me where in the 14th it says he has to be convicted and in which court. Section 5 of the 14th amendment where it gave Congress the power to enforce the amendment. And then they did with 18 U. S. C. §2383 which almos...

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
:dunce: Perhaps? Try definitely. Not all of the inflated profits were intentional. Companies raised prices based on their costs at the time and what they estimated they would be after inflation continued to rise. Some estimated high on accident and others took advantage of the situation. If the gov...

Re: Shipping Migrants Inland
That was illegal immigration a decade ago - people coming to fill work that we couldn't find people here to do. But that was millions of people ago. There's nowhere near the amount of fruit to be picked for the swaths of people streaming across the border now. Biden dismissed this as a seasonal sur...

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
Everyone except for the consumer. Again, don't let inflation get out of hand in the first place (i.e. rampant and sudden increase in government spending, giving a shock to the supply of money) and none of this happens. Predictable, stable, and low inflation is and has always been the goal of the Fe...

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
Price gouging didn't cause the inflation. You could argue that gouging (both intentional and unintentional) prolonged the inflationary period, but if you don't lose control of in the first place then you don't get the opportunity for gougers to pile on. Gouging wasn't a cause, it was a result. :cof...

Re: Team Trump v/s Everyone
So you disagree with the 14th Amendment and due process? The irony is that the decision by the Colorado Supreme Court flies in the face of actual due process. There was no due process here - folks used a rather limited Colorado electoral code law and stretched it to get their desired outcome. And e...

I know you're just saying it tongue in cheek to elicit responses from the MAGA types on here, but to chime in as someone who isn't that, he still got 46% of the vote or so. Hard to call that a landslide. Convincing win? Sure. Landslide? Only if you're trying to poke people. Drudge's point is still ...

Not a fan of Schumer but he’s right here. “There are those in the House — these far-right people — who are isolationists. They said, ‘This is far away, we don’t have to bother,’’” Schumer said Sunday. “That’s what the world said in 1938 with Hitler, and America paid the price — hundreds of thousand...

so 11:10AM (CS time), Fri Feb 23, kalmie is on record as saying fascists control the US Supreme Court. For goodness sakes, you guys sound like a bunch of white, suburban softies who are scared to go into the big, bad city. Sure, I'll be the first to say that crime in cities recently, NYC included, is crappy. And I'll also say that legalization of marijuana, especially in NYC, has made the air qualit...

They will do it again this weekend NYC was a crime ridden tire burning ghetto 50 years ago and Rudi G cleaned it up and made it a destination. Today, after Deblozio the liberal idiot and now Waffle House Adams, the city is a place nobody wants to visit again…. Crime rules the streets Shameful Yep, ...

Now you're just spinning in circles. If fraud occurred, who was defrauded? If there was nothing to hide why didn't they ask for a jury trial? If you prepare a fraudulent financial statement and use it to dupe your bank, you committed a crime, period - it isn't the bank's call - and if things had go...

I agree that it's probably unlikely that they'll go after other folks like they did with Trump - let's face it, they had never gone after someone like this before anyway. With that said, Trump probably is a criminal for many other things, but in this case, everyone entered into these agreements wit...

Of course inflation is always present. But the "good" inflation is the one that's relatively low (2-3%) and steady over a long period of time. Then it's predictable and reliable and consumers and businesses expect it. When you open the floodgates of government spending just because you wa...

I don't see the comparison with FDR being a good one. With FDR there was a real, systematic failure of the economy prior to him taking office. And in reality, nothing he did really fixed any of that and we needed a world war to basically reset the table and the economy. Sure some of his things were...
