Dixie State U joins WAC, becomes FCS Indy
Starting 2020
https://www.wacsports.com/general/2018- ... 0111mx6862
Dixie State University has accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference effective July 1, 2020, DSU and WAC officials announced today at a joint news conference. The invitation is contingent upon DSU completing the reclassification process from NCAA Division II to Division I. The Trailblazers will begin WAC regular season competition during the 2020-21 school year.
"Several factors make Dixie State University a great fit for the WAC," Commissioner Jeff Hurd said. "Commitment to quality
academics and athletics programs, along with the long-term vision that President Williams has for the University's growth, are at the top of the list. I have no doubt that Dixie State will make a smooth transition to Division I and to the WAC."
The Trailblazers, which have won one Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship in just one season of membership, won 20 PacWest team championships in 11 seasons. They were also four-time PacWest Community Engagement award winners.
"Dixie State University is located in the fastest growing city in America and in a state that is supporting higher education at unprecedented levels," said Brian Mueller, President of Grand Canyon University and Chairman of the WAC's Board of Directors. "The university has a growing student body and is investing in excellence in their academic and athletic programs. They have some outstanding athletic facilities, including a Division I level basketball arena. Like Grand Canyon and California Baptist, Dixie State will be competitive immediately and will be a strong contributor to the continued growth of the Western Athletic Conference."

Re: Dixie State U joins WAC, becomes FCS Indy
Football only invite to the Big Sky or will there eventually be a split up of the conference? Perhaps NMSU moves down for now to FCS and Utah Valley (who is the largest school in the state and has great funding and facilities) adds football and they try and bring back WAC football with an eye on settling into a hybrid division of FCS and G5's when the split finally occurs?
Sidenote...the State of Utah is simply amazing for how many DI athletics programs they have.

It sounds like they might drop football if they can't find a conference.
https://www.ksl.com/article/46464699/so ... ndependentIf football is not an option for the WAC, the school will likely add men’s swimming or men’s tennis, because they already have facilities for both programs. Apart from football, the Trailblazers currently host men’s programs in basketball, baseball, cross country, golf and soccer, and women’s sports programs in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and volleyball.

Utah has a Dixie State? Do they have the Stars and Bars? Can you buy a drink there?

Already have football games scheduled with Southern Utah in 2020, 2022 and 2024. Games with Weber State are currently in the works as well. Welcome to Div. 1 Dixie State University

Re: RE: Re: Dixie State U joins WAC, becomes FCS Indy
We actually crashed there for a night a couple of years ago. Seriously though, it took us forever to even find a dam bar with something decent to drink. The funny thing about it was I asked the kid bartending why the Woodford Reserve looked so odd colored. He then tells me that it wasn't really Bourbon it was food coloring in water and that it was illegal to put hard alcohol out in public there.SeattleGriz wrote:Love how you even know about the alcohol in other states! Good add for the WAC. DSU should have no problem filling out a schedule with all the BSC programs that will be lining up to schedule them as a non-con game.

Weber State and Dixie State agree to three game series starting in 2020. Game one will be in Ogden, then Weber travels south to St. George in 2021 and game 3 is back in Ogden in 2022.

And apparently Dixie State and NAU have agreed to a 6 game seriesdbackjon wrote:So that is both Big Sky Utah schools with three game series against DSU

Dixie State and NAU will open a six-game series (all dates TBA) in Flagstaff in the 2023 season. The Lumberjacks will also host the Trailblazers in 2025 and 2027, while DSU and NAU will square off inside Trailblazer Stadium in 2024, 2026 and 2028. Dixie State played at NAU in its fourth game as an NCAA D-II member in 2006 (L, 14-66; 9/16/06).

Yup - I knew we would be playing them in the near future. Our schedules were set to 2022, so that was the first available date.

It is interesting. Utah will have 7 D1 programs, one D2 and no D3.kalm wrote:Almost thrice the population.CAA Flagship wrote:

Compare that to Virginia's 14 D1, three D2, and 20 D3.

Kind of like how WA has seven (7) times the population of MT but only one more D1 school?kalm wrote:Almost thrice the population.CAA Flagship wrote:

Well if we're using 89's numbers, WA has 5 DI schools.Grizalltheway wrote:Kind of like how WA has seven (7) times the population of MT but only one more D1 school?kalm wrote:

I assumed we were talking about D1 football (cue Dan Hawkins).kalm wrote:Well if we're using 89's numbers, WA has 5 DI schools.Grizalltheway wrote: Kind of like how WA has seven (7) times the population of MT but only one more D1 school?
