I was ready for the question "Define Success"
Success would have to be "better than here" because presently "here" is unacceptable

By present definition
The U.S. would fall below the minimum tolerable solution

and, no i caught them completely off guard
They were only prepared to go on the offensive about how awful America was

They ended up not being able to define "acceptable" "Neutral" and "Best case scenario"

I think you do have an idea. We all have watched the culture wars. The "side" represented by those "against" the NFL players has been consistently losing. There's no reason to think that things will change.

I'm not talking about elections, BTW. I'm talking about the culture.

What does "win" here mean? If you're talking about it being a successful ad campaign, yeah, it's not really that surprising that Nike's "we down wid da struggle yo" campaign is having success.

As far as the political debate, of course they can pretend like black men are more likely to be killed by police because of racial bias, but it won't do anything productive as far as policy. At best they'll do something that wouldn't work even if the problem were real (e.g. "diversity training") and at worst they'll damage the police profession and be like medieval peasants killing snakes to try and stop the plague.

No one wins when you set policy that's based on a myth.

No its not. While at work (insert your job field here) in unform there is no free speech right. You have a right to do what your employer allows you to do (or what has been negotiated through collective bargaining).

There is a counterpoint to this - one that Kap and about 50% of my FB friends list don't understand..

You can protest all you want, about anything you want

But you don't control how that protest is interpreted

Kap says it is about cops killing blacks - and for Kap and others, thats what its about

But he and others dont get to dictate what its about to others. People seeing it as an insult to vets, war dead, the flag itself.... thats their prerogative too

effective protests are controversial - otherwise they dont get anybodys attention

if you are going to protest something dont be butthurt when people get mad

I'm not confused about the consequences of protesting
at work or downtown or otherwise - all actions have reactions and consequences

But the fact still stands
There's nothing more American than protesting
whenever and wherever you think it will have the most effective response

Kaepernick guessed correctly
He's unemployed because of it but he's also made the most impact
Even if the impact is everybody thinks he's an idiot (See: Trump for impact results)

Next:
measuring the accuracy and credibility of his stance is not relevant
which seems to confuse most Conservatives

I dont know why that's an FYI for me

I could care less about Kap's protest - it doesn't offend me any more than the other 50,000 people in the stadium who pay no attention to the anthem (in a variety of ways)

and I don't think Americans owe vets or cops or anybody else any more respect than they do the average dude

But I do think the reaction to Kap's NFL troubles is not something his defenders should be whining about - he got exactly what he was fishing for

I actually do disagree with the premise that black people are being killed wholesale by police in this country purely as a function of their identity, but that's another thread, and I have more important things to do with my time than trying to change angry minds
