In his early days with the Jets he was the best I'd ever seen play the position...

Re: Darrelle Revis to retire!!!!
Lot of great CB's in the last 30 years, and Revis was one of them. Some say Dieon Sanders was the best, but I would go with my guy, Charles Woodson. He was the difference maker that Aaron Rodgers needed on the other side of the ball, to win the Super Bowl.Chizzang wrote:In his early days with the Jets he was the best I'd ever seen play the position...

Revis in his first 4 years was the best I'd ever seen (and PFF agrees)
But he fell off after his first injury and never reached those heights again
his career is NOT as impressive as Woodson or Sanders by a long stretch

But you could also argue that during that 3-4 year stretch, no one had so much separation from the next closest player as Revis did.

He held the top three receivers in the league in his third season to 3 catches and 7 yards
During that season he received zero safety help for the entire season - had 31 pass defended and 6 int
The next closes DB with passes defended was 18 by Charles Woodson
Revis was substantially better than the second best DB
although Woodson had a better career Revis had 3 of the best DB seasons in NFL history

Re: Darrelle Revis to retire!!!!
I would give Revis the advantage for coverage, Woodson had other intangibles. That season Woodson had 18 passes defended, he had 9 interceptions, 3 for TD's, and a couple QB sacks. As with all power ratings, nothing is absolute. Just have to go with the guy you think is best after reviewing the stats.Chizzang wrote:Without question...dbackjon wrote:

Roland was one of the best, along with Ronnie Lott, Rod Woodson and I can even remember Herb Adderley from his late Packers and Cowboy years. There have been some pretty good DBacks out there, but we have DBackjon.css75 wrote:2 words: Champ Bailey

I can only assume you're not actually serious...SuperHornet wrote:He's not as good as Michael Downs, either....css75 wrote:2 words: Champ Bailey

But if you are serious, why isn't Downs in the Hall of Fame

At least Downs didn't stand there with his thumb up his butt watching the future blow up in his face....

Re: Darrelle Revis to retire!!!!
How do you stand anywhere with your thumb in your butt?
You can't really stand. You have to sort of bend at the midsection
its more like crouching there with your thumb in your butt
