Temporary. Glad you're waiting to see how the season turns out before putting up.

In my defense, I had been off the grid and this thread dropped off the first page. I do admit to waiting until the Bosox completed their sweep to comment. Where Machado lands could have a big impact on how the NL East race shapes up. The Bravos and Phils are at the top of most rumored suitors lists.

The Nats flat out suck right now. They simply can't hit. Last year you had Murphy, Rendon, Zimmerman and Harper all over .300 Murphy and Zim have missed a huge part of the season and Murphy is taking a while to get back to his form. Zim is done. Rendon is close to getting back to .300 (currently .289) and who knows WTF is wrong with Haper. Soto is the only bright spot now as far as hitters go, but even he is cooling off.

Last year SEVEN players batting .290 or better. This year, three with one on of those on the 60 day DL. :ohno:

They had a players only meeting last night after the sweep. Who knows if it will help.

The Nats are one of the most underachieving teams in recent memory. It is puzzling. April - they sucked. May - they played to form. June - they sucked. Really hard to figure out.

I honestly think the Phillies have been significantly overachieving to this point in the season. Their pitching is pretty solid, but not enough fire power offensively. If they score Machado, that would be a tremendous upgrade at a position of weakness (shortstop) for them. I think they need the help to vie.

I think the Braves are a good team and deserving of where they are in the standings. They will continue to compete for the NL East whether they pick up a big name or not.

Dodgers are in first after scrambling back from a terrible start. D’backs and Rockies are going to have to earn it now.

The Red Sox go into the All Star break with the best record in the Majors...

68 - 30 with a 4.5 game lead over the Yankees...

Not a single NL team has broken the 60 game win mark...3 AL teams have more than 60 wins...

Good start.

Hopefully it will make the Yankees more willing to give up good talent for pitching help before the trade deadline.

I thought the Rockies were dead at end of June with a 38-42 record, but currently 51-45. Hate to see the break actually.

Twins send Escobar to the Dbacks. Been a fan favorite in Minnesota, Dbacks getting a good player.

Phillies "rent" Asdrubal Herrera from the Mutts in exchange for a AA pitching prospect. Not a bad deal.

Looks like this could be the busiest trade session yet around the deadline.

Just looking at the standings, and it seems that the Tigers could have one of the five worst records in MLB this season and still finish third in the AL Central. :ohno:

Rockies had 15 home games in July, their starting pitchers had a 1.71 ERA for the home 15 games. That is good anywhere, in Denver that is Epic. They are now tied for the wild card with the snakes and are 1 game out of first.

I would change baseball in one way if I could

1) The All Star Break would take place after game 81 - exactly half way
2) Any player traded after the all-Star Break would not be eligible for post season play

Meaning that all trades of significance would need to take place before or during the All Star Break
This ability to build a team in late July and August is crap - hurts the integrity of team building

Meh. They have a hard enough time generating interest....changing that would kill it even more....teams aren’t going to dismantle with 81 games left.

I don't know that it makes any significant difference. Regarding post-season play, isn't the deadline July 31?
If so, we are talking 3 weeks. Meh.

Going a little later than half way also better identifies who is out of the race and who is still in it, so they can determine who is a buyer and who is a seller.

Precisely my point...
81 is the last week of June

Make it more of a risk to trade

Which means trades probably will not happen. This year it seems like most contenders are making deals for the stretch run so it isn’t like the Yankees are the only ones making moves. AJ Happ is not going to take them to the promised land.

I just feel like teams should have to live with their rosters...
and that razor blade cuts two ways
Rich teams would have a harder time making late season deals
and the other teams wouldn't be able to just salary dump at the first sign of trouble

Teams would be forced to live with their off season moves
real life accountability
