The U.S. government had a $147 billion budget deficit in May, an increase of 66 percent from the same month last year as the ledger took a hit from declining revenue and higher spending, according to Treasury Department data released on Tuesday.
The big thing here is to recall that the Republicans sold their tax package, in part, on the idea that it would actually increase revenue based on the Laffer curve principle. Recall that all of the serious structured analyses said that wasn't going to happen but Republicans just spoke in generalities and said that it would.

I am for lower taxes. But I'm not for lying about what the impact is going to be and acting like you're going to generate more revenue by doing so under circumstances where that's probably not going to happen.

They're still idiots. They probably don't even realize that the current Republican regime just recently dramatically increased spending after cutting revenues in order to make the deficit problem worse when there was no reason to. When spending was massively jacked up about a decade ago at least there was a reason for it. It was argued that it had to be done because the economy was crashing.

There was no such reason this time. This time the economy was doing fine already and they did it anyway.

2022 under Obama the US lost out to Qatar..In 2010 the US withdrew from 2018 to focus on 2022, and despite Obama's backing, still lost to Qatar..

And what about the 2018 bid losers you listed (England, Belgium + Netherlands, Portugal + Spain), and other 2022 bid losers besides the US (Australia, Japan, Korea). So all of them were fuck it, we're not going to bid against North America & Morocco?

I don't know if you're trolling or seriously think the President has serious clout in how the World Cup location is selected. At best, you might get some letters from the President in support of a bid.

Otherwise, the major legwork is done by a TON of other people and jurisdictions.

ps. And for what it's worth, Qatar received the 2022 World Cup through questionable means. Possible FIFA corruption aside, the US would have won the bid.

Apparently kneeling during the anthem to protest racism is unpatriotic. But this is fine.

KCTV did capture the salute, which had not been noted in most international coverage. When meeting No Kwang Chol, North Korea's minister for the People's Armed Forces and a top military leader, Trump initially tries to shake his hand. No pulls his hand back and then salutes the president. Trump then responds with his own salute in return, before the two men shake hands as Kim smiles in the background.

And?

I don't think this is anything to hang Trump on (although I'm sure NK will have good propaganda material for the next few decades), but I also remember when Obama bowed to foreign royalty and apparently that showed the end of American greatness.

Trump is the Commander in Chief of the US Military. I think it is military courtesy to salute a foreign military official.

What's the problem? It's a sign of respect. Even when negotiating with an enemy - you should show respect. He returned a salute.

The NorKors will use anything as propaganda - so what's the point of complaining about this?

I'm guessing she's right about the bible respecting the rule of law (of course reality is a far different story). The look on the blond reporter's face and how fired up the one dude gets had to have brought some high fives behind the scenes after the presser.

Have to hand it to Sarah Sanders on this one...well played.
