 There have been 18 different NHL teams in the Stanley Cup finals since 2006.

Gannon, you usually are tough to beat in a discussion, but you might want to walk away from this one.

Something, anything. Last time one of these teams (Cavs, Spurs, Heat, Lakers, Bulls, Rockets, Pistons) wasn't in the Finals... 1979. Too much of the same for my liking. Seems like other leagues have increased parity over the years while the NBA has not.
You probably gave up on FCS football by now. ;)

Not that big of a difference, sans the Lakers 10 championships in 38 years.

NBA has had 19 different teams in the finals, and 11 different Champions.
NHL has had 26 different teams in the finals, and 16 different Champions.

**Quick count will at work.

See above. NHL used to be a lot more like the NBA where it was the same teams year after year. That's not the case anymore.

You'd have to include 2004 to get to 8 for the NBA, in that same time the NHL also had 8 (one lockout year with no Cup) and they will have 9 in two weeks, NBA will be stuck on 8.

2004 Detroit Pistons
2005 San Antonio Spurs
2006 Miami Heat
2007 San Antonio Spurs
2008 Boston Celtics
2009 Los Angeles Lakers
2010 Los Angeles Lakers
2011 Dallas Mavericks

2014 San Antonio Spurs
2015 Golden State Warriors
2016 Cleveland Cavaliers

Yeah, I counted SA twice, still 7-7 on champions.

If we start at 2008, the it's NBA 7, NHL 5

And if we start at 2008 you have 9 unique participants for the NBA compared to 14 for NHL.

You can't win this one. Four years in a row with the same teams.... just stop. :tothehand:

I don't think anything has been proven, but if Philly or Washington start winning again in the NBA, I'm sure you'll start watching again.

And those two teams in the past 4 years had all of one, count them one, Finals appearance between them between now and the mid 1970's. The fact that Golden State and Cleveland are at the top of the NBA food chain is remarkable where they came from and certainly a plus for parity in the NBA.

Like Gil said in the other post, the NHL's had 26 different teams in the Finals since 1980 and 16 different champs. The NBA's had 19 different teams and 11 different champs. It's not really that different to warrant this many posts.

 And like I said, the NHL used to be more like the NBA. They evolved. NBA... not so much.

And Gil, I don't care about the Sixers or Wiz either.

Evolved??? Like having a first year expansion team win the whole thing is a good thing? Man, are you being given talking points directly from the NHL to gloss over this disaster??? That's like saying it would be a good thing for the Cleveland Browns to be, well, the Cleveland Browns, but the very next year be unbeatable and become the Super Bowl champs. There's parity, and then there's just a crap shoot. The NHL is like a crap shoot now. Bravo.

Feeling nauseous about this trade rumor!

In this deal, Minnesota would take back 2017 No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz, former first-rounders Dario Saric and Furkan Korkmaz. Fultz will be 20 next season, so he obviously needs time to develop, but he managed to show flashes of being an elite combo-guard at times this season when healthy. Saric is a versatile 24-year-old forward who averaged 14.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season. Korkmaz is a flashy 20-year-old wing with a ton of upside who needs a chance to play.

The teams would also have to swap first-round picks from this season, with No. 10 going to Minnesota and No. 20 going to Philly.

Sixers get: Karl-Anthony Towns, 20th pick in 2018 NBA Draft

Timberwolves get: Markelle Fultz, Dario Saric, Furkan Korkmaz, 10th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft

Nice win by the Warriors in OT, thanks to JR's lapse in judgement and Hill's missed FT. Lebron scores 51 and he still loses. He tries to make it look like he's playing team ball, but it just doesn't look like there's a flow on the Cavs right now.

I would take that trade in a heart beat, and I love Saric (platonically of course). Saric is the only proven commodity in that deal, and he's half the player KAT is. Furkan is just a wild card, could end up being a decent wing player with range, or could just be a nothing. And Fultz, well, I haven't written him off completely yet but there aren't enough alarm bells and warning lights to do him justice. He may end up being a bigger #1 overall pick bust than Oden was.

This whole Colangelo thing could work out great for the Sixers. He wasn't a stellar GM to begin with (re see trade for rights to pick Fultz) and if the Sixers do what is expected and fire him today (likely this afternoon), they could look to hire currently unemployed David Griffin, formerly the GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers and a guy that Lebron James continues to talk about in glowing terms. Hire Griffin, nab Lebron in free agency next month, and start thinking of a deep run in the playoffs next year.

Eh, they have to win their home games coming up or it indeed didn't matter. If the Cavs don't even the series in the next two games then it's all over and we turn to where Lebron will be playing next year.

Only if Colangelo stays, and frankly, if he stays then the Sixers deserve everything they would get (and no one would come here if he does). Heck, they could start causing Embiid and Simmons to leave the fold if Colangelo doesn't get fired over this. I think the NBA is dictating this one and not letting the Sixers fire him during the NBA Finals. Silver even alluded to the fact that he was irked this story came out just before Game 1 and that it partially took away the full attention to the NBA Finals. As long as Colangelo goes, there's no long term damage to the Sixers.

As for Lebron, I can't see him going to the West. His biggest claim to being better than MJ, as right now it looks dubious that he'll ever come close to the 6 rings, is that he's been to 8 consecutive NBA finals. That is a big deal and an important stat. However, he's also dogged by criticism that it's only because he's in the East and he gets an easy path to the Finals every year. If he goes to the West, and say loses somewhere before reaching the Finals, that streak goes away and that criticism gets ratcheted up bigtime and casts a shadow on everything he's done prior. If he doesn't go to the West (i.e. the Lakers or Rockets) then I think he comes to Philly. Can't stay in Cleveland, cap problems galore there. This is the best they'll be. Can't go to Boston - Kyrie's there. Options are limited.

Philly and Boston are the 2 teams moving up. Boston with Kyrie, may have defeated the Cavs this year, but he needs to stay healthy.
