We gots one of those CAA teams on the schedule. Looking forward to seeing the Hens play in the Fargodome. If we have a good enough season to make the playoffs again, we may have another CAA team on the schedule.

You must be confusing Harrsisonburg with Roanoke, or Winchester..

JMU gets it 5th transfer of 2018 (one left after Spring practice). UCF's leading rusher as a true Fr in 2016 with 546 yards who who suffered a season ending injury last Sept. Former 3 star who had a lot of offers out HS, including from Miami. He likely will have 3 seasons eligibility at JMU.
https://jamesmadison.rivals.com/news/uc ... ers-to-jmu
He will joined a loaded JMU backfield that has 3 seniors.

-Grad student Cardon Johnson. Granted a 6th year after 3 season ending injuries (doubt he can stay healthy). 2088 career yards rushing.
2014 season ending injury in the spring.
2015 2nd team All CAA.
2016 season ending injury Nov. Was on pace for over 1k yards despite backing up Khalid Abdullah.
2017 season ending injury Sept. 265 yds rushing vs ECU.

-Sr Marcus Marshall- Ga Tech leading rusher 2015 & 2016, JMU last yr only 4 starts but leading rusher with 850 yds. 2128 career yards rushing

-Sr Trai Sharp- 3rd team All CAA last season, 1449 career yards rushing.

-So Percy Agei Obese, played in 10 games, 273 yards. Vs NSU 16 carries, 103 yards.

That's 5 RBs with almost 6,500 yards of career production, close to 5700 among the 3 seniors..

I know you're trolling, but I'll bite. I know you're all about Girl Power and girls' sports. Well JMU's:
Women's lacrosse team finished 1st in the CAA & is in the NCAA Final Four:
https://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracke ... e-women/d1
Softball team finished 1st in the CAA & is in the NCAA tourney:
https://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracke ... ll/d1/2018
Womens' basketball team tied for 1st in the CAA, made it to sweet 16 of NIT.
http://www.caasports.com/standings.aspx?path=wbball
Field hockey team was 2nd in the CAA..
(I had to look all this stuff up)..

Now as far as the 2 sports that really matter, football and mens' basketball..
Football: Last 3 seasons: 2 IA wins, 3 playoff trips (7 wins), 6 nationally televised playoff games on ESPN networks, 2 trips to Frisco, 1 NC, and twice hosting ESPN Gameday (which frankly dwarfs everything else), its pretty clear who the current face of the CAA is...

Basketball: team blows right now (was in a 4 way tie with UD, Drexel, and Elon for last in the CAA), and the current 6,500 capcity Convo Center is a dilapidated relic, this ought to help turn things around. Just broke ground a couple weeks ago on the new 8,500 capacity, 88 million basketball arena (part of 250 million in current construction projects at JMU):
Image
"...The Union Bank & Trust Center will have a club area, courtside seating with a private hospitality area, state-of-the-art lighting and audio/video technology, a center-hung scoreboard and upper concourse ribbon boards, a student club area, a multipurpose event space, a team store and a Raising Cane’s restaurant. A 1,500-space parking deck will be constructed next to the building.

The arena will include a practice gym, offices, academic areas, locker rooms, meeting rooms, a strength-and conditioning area, a sports-medicine area and amenities for the men’s and women’s basketball programs...."
http://www.richmond.com/sports/jmu-to-o ... 09ecc.html

Its pretty clear who the current face of the CAA is..
In UD's defense, they were the National Champs in Field Hockey two years ago, and the baseball team was the CAA's rep in the NCAA's last year. :coffee:

JMU's gets another transfer. 4 star DB out of Ohio State:
https://jamesmadison.rivals.com/news/ex ... join-dukes
http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports ... 21234.html
Reportedly only played 10 snaps last season, didn't crack the Ohio State 2 deep during the Spring. With JMU losing 2 All Americans at safety from last season, good he'll start.

This years transfers:
-Ben Dinucci- rJr QB- started 6 games PItt last year. Likely will be replacing Schor as the starting QB.
-Parris Black- rJr DE- Wake Forest 2 deep the last 2 seasons. 2 deep/possible starter.
-Matt Terrell- Jr DE played at UVA as a true Fr/JUCO last season. 2 deep/possible starter.
-Wayne Davis- rSo Safety- 2 deep/possible starter.
-Jawon Hamilton- rSo RB- started at UCF as a true FR, missed last season- part of crowded JMU backfield.

Had a transfer DT from UVA who started 5 games for them last season. Enrolled in Jan, dropped off the team before the end of Spring ball.

Always good to load up at RB. NDSU lost 4 backs last year to injury. Bruce Anderson and Freshman Seth Wilson finished the season. Lance Dunn returned for Frisco. Dunn played the first 8 games and had 11 TD Rushes.

Anderson rushed for 183 yards against Sam in the Semi-final game, and Wilson chipped in with 195 yards.

True. If you can go 4 deep you're good to go. JMU could initially go 5 deep if they are all ready, none of them true Fr. Like I added to my post above, that's 5 RBs with almost 6,500 yards of career production (including at Ga Tech and UCF), close to 5700 among the 3 seniors..Might be the most in the country, at least outside of the triple option teams. Course 2 of those 5 are coming off of major injuries, and like I said, I doubt Cardon Johnson makes it through the entire season..

None of that means squat if you dont have the big boys up front, which is a question mark for JMU. Lost 2 starters/3 with double digit starts, including Aaron Stinnie, a near consensus AA/UDFA Titans. Return 2 with double digit starts + 4 more with multiple starts over the last 2 seasons, a couple of whom were inured most of last season. 3rd OL coach in 3 seasons. New one (43 years coaching experience/35 Div I) has a very impressive resume. We'll see.

Came across this from about 4 months ago..

FCS RECRUITING: Top 40 CAA Recruits
*How did we come up with our ranking list below? Simple -- it's subjective, but all recruiting rankings are that way. We combined 247Sports, Rivals, the players' offer lists and our own thoughts to come up with our version of the FCS recruiting rankings. We provide some of their other top offers in the charts. This is our third year doing this.

*We don't include junior college or 4-year school transfers in any of this work. This is strictly incoming high school graduates....”
https://herosports.com/fcs/recruiting-c ... class-ajaj

By my count:
JMU: 9 (7 of the top 14)
VU: 6
UD: 4
SBU: 3
Elon:3
W&M: 3
URI: 3
UNH: 2
UR: 2
Maine: 2
TU: 2
Albany: 1

I realize this even more of a crapshoot that the IA recruit rankings, but it goes to show that JMU, in addition to the transfers (5 IA, 1 JUCO) is getting a lot of quality HS recruits (15, 12 of whom had a I-A offer, 10 of them multiple I-A offers, 3 with at least 1 P5 offer)..

If I'm reading what's been reported on Houston's contract right and my math isn't jacked up:
$515,311 base ($390,311 + $125,000 from "anonymous donors').
$50,000 retention bonus on Feb. 1.
$565,311 2018 guaranteed.

All of his bonuses and incentives stay the same from the initial extension he inked after the 2016 season. Max possible according to the below article $145,625:
$31,250 making playoffs.
$5,000 winning CAA.
$46,875 winning 3 playoff games ($15,625 per playoff win).
$31,250 making NC game.
$31,250 winning NC.
https://jamesmadison.rivals.com/news/ho ... -big-raise

Total max possible 2018: $710,936 ($565,311 guaranteed + $145,625 max performance incentives)

Think there's some ancillary stuff like country club dues & car payments, but I don't feel like looking it up..
"....The school upped Houston’s assistant coaches salary pool from $852,500 in 2017 to $971,000 — an increase of $118,500..."

Could have Flacco vs Testaverde in the CAA this season.

Both walked on at I-A schools.
Both spent multiple years at 2 I-A schools.
Both transferring to CAA schools as seniors

I do t think #3 for UD is that off. I’m predicting either 8-3/6-2 or 7-4/5-3. I’d have them coin toss with VU for #4/5. I’d have it:
1. JMU (wont got undefeated in CAA)
2. UNH
3. Elon (instead of 5)
4. UD (instead of 3- only in top 7 who misses JMU).
5. VU (instead of 6)
6. SBU (instead of 4)
7. UR
8. Albany (instead of 9)
9. Maine (instead of 8)
10. TU
11. W&M
12. URI

Sad news out of Maine. I grew up about 17 miles from Locust Grove, and have family in Orange County where the kid is from. Don't know if JMU recruited him or not.

"Maine freshman football player, 18, dies during preseason workout

A freshman football player at the University of Maine died Tuesday during an informal workout session for incoming players.

Defensive back Darius Minor, 18, of Locust Grove, Va., collapsed on the field, and athletic trainers and first responders were unable to revive him.

The full football team doesn't officially begin training camp until next week, but Minor was in the third week of the Black Bears' orientation program for first-year players.

“UMaine Athletics is devastated. We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time and ask that their privacy be respected,” Maine interim athletic director James Settele said in a statement.....

.....Minor collapsed on the field at about 1:15 p.m., with the weather humid and temperatures in the low 80s.

The cause of death has yet to be determined. "

Dukes To Play At Louisville In 2022

...Louisville will pay JMU $600,000 for the visit to Cardinal Stadium. That figure is the largest ever payday the Dukes will receive from an FBS foe.

The Dukes will get $550,000 from West Virginia to open the 2019 season. N.C. State is paying $425,000 for this season’s opener and North Carolina has agreed on a $500,000 check for the 2020 contest.....”

...White said JMU still is looking for a 2021 FBS opponent.

In two of the last three seasons, JMU has upended their top-level foes. Last season, running back Cardon Johnson carried for 265 yards and two scores to help the Dukes demolish East Carolina, 34-14. In 2015, JMU took down SMU 48-45 in Dallas.

Looking down the line, JMU’s 2019 schedule is full. In addition to playing at WVU, the team will start a home-and-home on the road at Chattanooga and will host St. Francis and Morgan State.

White said he still needs an FCS opponent to round out the 2020 non-conference schedule with Chattanooga coming to Harrisonburg on Sept. 12 and JMU traveling to UNC on Nov. 21...

Louisville finished 8-5 last year with an appearance in the Tax Slayer Bowl and have earned a bowl bid in each of the eight seasons under coach Bobby Petrino. In 2016, former quarterback Lamar Jackson won the Heisman Trophy.

Earlier this month at ACC Media Days, Louisville was picked to finish fifth in the Coastal Division in the preseason poll voted on by the league’s media members.”

BTW, announced today from JMU beat writer:
Just spoke with JMU assistant AD for communications Kevin Warner. He said beginning in the fall of 2019, the school will provide cost of attendance across all sports (including football) for all incoming and returning scholarship athletes.

Have to keep up with the Dakotas. I believe about half the MVFC does COA for football (the Dakota schools and UNI), but could be wrong on that. Anyone else?

Pretty much everything about JMU football, other than 63 schollies instead of 85, and being in the CAA, is at the G5 level. Facilties, spending, coaches' salaries, recruting, attendance, and on field performance. JMU is recruting more against P5 & G5 as they are vs other I-AA, so COA is absolutely necessary in keeping up with NDSU and being to able to compete recruiting wise with the I-A schools.

That's how you hang on to Houston

Keep him from going to FBS by taking the whole program to FBS
