Someone on the JMU board added it up:
So just to lay it out if we win next year (after this year, so not including the retention bonus):
Base salary: $390k
Anon Donors: $125k
Win CAA: $5k
Playoff Bonuses: $140,625

Total for winning the CAA and a NC: $660,625
Add in ancillarary bonuses/perks (car payment, country club dues, etc) could get close to 700k.

Someone worked this out:
http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/
Just for kicks, thought I'd check out how he compares to FBS coaches after the new contract. Looks like with what most of us with the current state of things would be an average year (lose in the semis), Houston will make $546,250. That puts him between Georgia State and Central Michigan (ahead of GA So, Ohio, UMass). On years he wins the Championship, he launches up above ODU, Charlotte, UNI, and UNLV...only a couple spots behind Appy and Texas State. Interestingly enough, Withers makes $675k...so Houston could make almost as much as Withers in a MUCH better situation.

So even on average years:
Sun Belt: mid-range
MAC: only 3 higher
C-USA: only a couple above
Oh, and he's apparently having a custom house built in Harrisonburg. People don't have those built (they take a lot to plan & longer to build) if they're thinking of leaving in the couple of years..

That's what they always say though

"His kids go to school here"

"He really likes it here"

"I bet he wants to retire here"

"His wife joined the PTA and rotary club recently"

Well, according to some on the Arkansas board, JMU’s DC Bob Trott is going to be their new DC, announced after the N.C. game. Wouldn’t be that far fetched- he’s got over 40 years of coaching experience, including 17 in I-A and 9 in he NFL. He was DC at:
Arkansas (84’-89’)
Clempson (90’)
Duke (96-01)
Baylor (02’)
UL Monroe (03’-04’)
UR (10’-15’)
JMU (16’-current)

The outlier is Mark Few who could have any job at least on the West Coast he wants but

He really likes Spokane and likes flyfishing which is harder to do in LA or Tucson.

You’ve got to go way southwest of Harrisonburg to hit coal & shine country.

But "way" in EC(b) lingo is 12 miles and beyond or outside the county which is also 12 miles and beyond.

He’s from Franklin, N.C., right outside of Cullowee (WCU) and the Great Smokey Mtns National Park. So as far as moonshine, you might be right. Which means he will seek the next HC opening in Boone..

“WAY” in this case is a lot more than 12 miles. No EC(b) here.

About 95 counties in VA. Rockingham is the 3rd by land area (849 Sq Miles).

I’m sure they’re some people running illegal stills in the Shenandoah Valley, but shine country is more like Lynchburg, Roanoke and further south and west, more like 100+ miles from Harrisonburg. Franklin Co, VA (between Roanoke & Martinsville), at one point was known as the moonshine capital of the country. The county seat, Rocky Mount, is about 135 Miles from Harrisonburg. At one point back in the day virtually the entire county was involved..

Almost all the coal now produced in VA since the 1950s has been in the 7 far southwest counties. So more like 200-250 Miles from Harrisonburg..

You must have Harrisonburg confused with Boone..

I would think that one uncertainty about Houston for an FBS school is recruiting. It seems likely that so far he's been winning with talent primarily assembled by someone else. Especially winning the national championship in his first year as head coach. On one hand there's a lot to be said for him making a lot better use of the talent than the previous guy did. But if I were a fan of a FBS school I would like to see how it goes for him after he's been there long enough to be running pretty much exclusively on talent he assembled.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Agreed, but so far the signs point to no drop off in recruiting. Of the about 50 players listed on JMU's 44 2 deep, about 25 of them signed under Houston: either 1st or 2nd year out of HS, or P5 transfers. Now granted most of the 2016 class was recruited by Withers, but Houston still had to "re recruit them & get them to sign".

So far:
10 P5 ransfers, 7 have been a success, 2-3 busts.
2016:
-USC QB- complete bust, no longer on team.
-Duke rSr WR: 2 year starter, 2nd & 3rd team All CAA.
-UVA rJr DE: 2 year starter, 3rd team All CAA.

2017
-GT Jr RB: Marcus Marshal, slow start, but now big success.
-UVA rSo WR: 2 deep
-USC rFr OL: appears to be a bust, no longer listed on roster.
-UMD rFr OL: jury still out, hasn't played yet this year, maybe bust.
-Rutgers rSo DL: 2 deep.
-UMD rSo LB: 2 deep, 5 starts.
-UVA So LB: 2 deep.

As far as his 2 HS classes, 6 were starting vs SDSU (including the kicker & punter).
-So starting OC (has started every game).
-rFr now starting OG (replacing injured starter in round of 16, has rotated with starters all season)
-True Fr possibly starting vs NDSU OG (replaced injured starter in quarterfinals, has rotated with starters all season. 3 star out of HS, double digit I-A offers, best true Fr OL at JMU in a LONG time).
-So TE: started 1st 2 games, looked very good, went down for season to injury in Oct.
-True Fr RB: has looked very good, #4 RB, has had a game with 100+ yards.
-True Fr WR: has looked very good, #5-#6 WR, has had a game with 100+ yards.
-Soph starting OLB.
-True Fr starting punter
-True Fr starting kicker (winning FG versus Weber)
+ a bunch more on the 2 deep.
