2R - Stony Brook @ (1) JMU

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

The de facto CAA Championship Game. Coming into this season, I'm pretty sure we all thought Stony Brook would have the dominant defense while James Madison would have the dominant offense. Instead, JMU has an even better D than the Seawolves, but their offense—though still slightly better than SBU's—hasn't exactly been lighting it up in conference play (just 4th. in the league with 370 ypg). I do like the Dukes to win, but don't expect a lot of points.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- James Madison

        Running Backs - Stony Brook

        Receivers/TEs - (push)

        Offensive Line - James Madison

        Defensive Line - James Madison

        Linebackers --- James Madison

        Secondary ---- James Madison

        Kicking ------ James Madison

        Punting ------ James Madison

        Return Teams - (push)

        Kickoffs ------ Stony Brook

        • Stony Brook 10-24 James Madison

SBU QB Joe Carbone:
2015 rotated in a 2 QB rotation.
Main starter 2016 and this season.

Passing:
2015
9 games, 63 of 122 (52%), 2 TDs, 8 INTS.

2016:
10 games, 93 of 179 (52%), 1017 yds, 3 TDs, 12 INTs.

2017
189 of 327 (58%), 2263 yds, 22 TDs, 3 INTs.

Holy improvement as far as the TD to INT ratio. But without the injured Bolden, his go to WR, vs Maine and Lehigh, he had his worst passing games percentage wise:
vs Maine: 11 of 34, 222, 2 TDs/0 NT
vs Lehigh: 13 of 29, 268, 2 TDs/0 INT

I would NOT be surprised if this were the exact score on this game. JMU is good....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Carbone yesterday: 15 for 36, 207 yds. 1 TD, 5 INT. Yep, JMU picked him off more times in 1 game than he had been all season. The one TD SBU scores in he 4th Qtr was when Jimmy Moreland, one of JMU’s 4 All CAA DBs, tripped and fell on a slant pattern by the SBU WR..

Only the 6th TD in 12 games given up by JMU’s starting defense..
