Best Performance: (#9) Sam Houston St. 27, Stephen F. Austin 16 - The Bearkats get back on track with a surprisingly defensive victory.

Worst Performance: Indiana St. 0, (#2) North Dakota St. 52 - The Sycamores commit 6 turnovers to make an easy Bison win even easier.

Most Surprising Result: Southern Illinois 14, (#8) South Dakota St. 49 - Even including FBS games, this was SIU's most lopsided loss since the 2003 playoffs.

OVC

TTU 23-24 EIU
TSU 45-21 EKU
MUR 13-10 UTM
JAXST 34-14 AP

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 10-17

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 6-7

Best Performance: (#4) Jacksonville St. 34, Austin Peay 14 - The Gamecocks score 14 more points than Austin Peay's first 3 FCS opponents combined.

Worst Performance: (#25) Tennessee-Martin 10, Murray St. 13 - The Skyhawk defense had 11 tackles-for-loss and 3 forced turnovers… and it was all for naught.

Most Surprising Result: Murray St. 13, (#25) Tennessee-Martin 10 - The Racers beat Martin for just the second time in the last 13 years.

Pioneer League

DAY 20-10 DRAKE

    vs. FCS: 1-1
    Overall: 3-18

Best Performance: Stetson 17, Brown 13 - The Hatters end a 9-game losing streak and hold an opponent under 20 points for the first time in more than a year.

Worst Performance: Morehead St. 6, Butler 44 - Since throwing 4 TD passes against Dayton a couple weeks ago, Eagle QB Lawson Page has yet to throw another one.

Most Surprising Result: Stetson 17, Brown 13 - Maybe Stetson should play Brown every week, because they're 2-0 against them and winless against all their other FCS non-conference opponents

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

Because I picked NAU to win. I didn't think it would be 3 touchdowns, but still…

I was more surprised by UND's win. They looked like they'd totally given up during the previous few games.

Illinois State could go 1-5 the rest of the season....

Patriot League

FORD 10-14 LAF
LEH 41-38 COLG
MONM 48-36 HC
GTOWN 30-50 PRINCE

  • NConf Record: 0-2
    Overall: 7-25

    vs. FCS: 0-2
    Overall: 7-22

Best Performance: Lehigh 41, Colgate 38 - Lehigh's defense didn't fare any better than in prior games, but their discipline won the day as they committed 76 fewer penalty yards than Colgate.

Worst Performance: Fordham 10, Lafayette 14 - The Rams become the second-straight team to hold Lafayette to negative rushing yards and still lose.

Most Surprising Result: Georgetown 30, Princeton 50 - The Hoyas scored more points here than in their previous 3 games combined and still lost. :?

NEC

SFPA 14-26 PRESBY
WAG 0-38 DUQ
PENN 21-42 CCSU
RMU 3-16 ETSU

  • NConf Record: 1-2
    Overall: 15-16

    vs. FCS: 1-2
    Overall: 9-14

Best Performance: Central Connecticut St. 42, Penn 21 - After a slow start, the Blue Devils now look like contenders in the (admittedly weak) NEC.

Worst Performance: St. Francis (PA) 14, Presbyterian 26 - So… the Red Flash could shut down perennial Big South contender Liberty, but they couldn't get the job done against perennial Big South doormat Presbyterian? :suspicious:

Most Surprising Result: St. Francis (PA) 14, Presbyterian 26 - SFPA had only allowed 32 points in their first 4 games combined, then they give up 26 to Presbyterian of all teams.

CAA

MAINE 0-31 NOVA
UD 24-20 SBU
ALB 38-41 RICH (2OT)
W&M 17-25 ELON

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 22-11

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 20-3

Best Performance: Delaware 24, (#23) Stony Brook 20 - The Blue Hens win the second half 17-0 to stun the Seawolves.

Worst Performance: Maine 0, (#12) Villanova 31 - The Wildcats didn't get much offense with Bednarczyk out, but you don't need much offense when you force 6 turnovers.

Most Surprising Result: (#23) Stony Brook 20, Delaware 24 - Just like last year, Stony Brook suffers a stunning loss just after entering the top-25.

Big South

MONM 48-36 HC
short 14-42 GWEBB
CHSO 0-27 IU
SFPA 14-26 PRESBY
TXSO 3-48 KENN

  • NConf Record: 4-1
    Overall: 15-11

    vs. FCS: 3-0
    Overall: 11-8

Best Performance: Monmouth 48, Holy Cross 36 - The Hawks are 9-3 out-of-conference the last 2 years. Can they turn that momentum into Big South wins this time?

Worst Performance: Gardner-Webb 42, (DII) Shorter 14 - Against an really bad DII like Shorter, I expected a much bigger pasting here.

Most Surprising Result: Presbyterian 26, St. Francis (PA) 14 - The Blue Hose get their first DI non-conference win in 3 years over somebody other than Campbell.

SoCon

SAM 26-7 VMI
WCU 28-35 WOFF (OT)
MER 24-14 CIT
RMU 3-16 ETSU
FUR 41-17 UTC

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 12-12

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 9-5

Best Performance: (#5) Wofford 35, (#22) Western Carolina 28 (OT) - The Terriers run for 393 yards and win their 8th. straight against SoCon opponents.

Worst Performance: Tennessee-Chattanooga 17, Furman 41 - Third-string quarterback Cole Copeland did throw for 317 yards, but he also threw 4 picks and the Moc running game could only provide 7 yards.

Most Surprising Result: (#17) The Citadel 14, Mercer 24 - The Bulldogs were still a playoff favorite less than 2 weeks ago. Now they're in serious trouble.

Tomorrow: Non-Playoff Folks…

Football can be weird. Like over in FBS LSU lost at home to flipping Troy then went on the road the next week and beat Florida.

That makes absolutely no sense. But stuff like that happens in college football.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I guess consistency shouldn't really be expected when we're talking about squads of nothing but ≈20-year-old kids.

Ivy League

PENN 21-42 CCSU
COLUM 41-17 MARIST
HARV 14-17 COR
YALE 27-28 DART
BROWN 13-17 STET
GTOWN 30-50 PRINCE

  • NConf Record: 2-2
    Overall: 15-5

    vs. FCS: 2-2
    Overall: 14-5

Best Performance: Dartmouth 28, Yale 27 - The Big Green win at the last second for the third-straight week.

Worst Performance: Brown 13, Stetson 17 - You can crack 400 yards against a CAA team, but not against arguably the worst team in the PFL?

Most Surprising Result: Brown 13, Stetson 17 - Just to reiterate: Brown has lost to Stetson 2 years in a row, while no other non-Pioneer FCS team has even lost to them once since they restarted football. :? :? :?

MEAC

NCCEN 13-7 HOW
FAMU 28-35 NFOLK
DSU 3-44 NCAT
MORG 14-35 SCSU
HAMP 17-10 SAV

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 9-20

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 3-10

Best Performance: NC Central 13, Howard 7 - The Eagles had a surprising lack of offense here, but they did hold Howard's potent rushing attack to 71 yards.

Worst Performance: Florida A&M 28, Norfolk St. 35 - The Rattlers roughly doubled Norfolk in yardage, but 4 lost fumbles—2 going back for touchdowns—made the difference.

Most Surprising Result: Norfolk St. 35, Florida A&M 28 - The Spartans have oddly started 2-0 in MEAC play in 4 of the past 5 seasons. Despite that, however, they haven't finished with a winning conference record since 2011.

SWAC

TXSO 3-48 KENN
GRAM 34-21 PVAMU (in Dallas, TX)
MVSU 38-31 UAPB
AAMU 14-35 SU
ALCORN 24-10 ALST

  • NConf Record: 0-1
    Overall: 6-23

    vs. FCS: 0-1
    Overall: 2-11

Best Performance: (#21) Grambling 34, Prairie View A&M 21 - Prairie View ran for 297 yards on top-10 Sam Houston State; Grambling held them to 12 rushing yards in the Cotton Bowl.

Worst Performance: Arkansas-Pine Bluff 31, Mississippi Valley St. 38 - The Golden Lions lost to Mississippi Valley, so I don't think I need to explain why they're here.

Most Surprising Result: Mississippi Valley St. 38, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 31 - The Delta Devils oddly get 418 passing yards from 4 different passers.

All right. Where are the re-classifiers? CCU is apparently reeling from their horrible mistake at 1-4. What's up with Liberty?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
